    Cloned tech 2 scan tool

I don't know the exact timings on when the full systems were switched over but my 06 vz ute definitely has at least the cluster communicating over obd1.

    Cloned tech 2 scan tool

No you would need to de soldier the ARM processor from the board and soldier and programme a new one. Not viable.

    Cloned tech 2 scan tool

And to go a step further... The vxdiag uses a microprocessor ARM STM32F407 which is a cheap CAN-capable chip, however if you review the schematics for it it does not have any inputs for pin 9 lol, so its literally impossible to get this to work. Now if i was blue-printing/designing the unit...

    Cloned tech 2 scan tool

If you open up the vxdiag unit, you will see pin9 does not have any printed traces going out to anything. So it's never going to work. Also 2007 and before (approx) are NOT obd2, only the ECM is obd2 compliant. All of the communications are done on obd1 data bus. In fact, the ECM communicates...

    Cloned tech 2 scan tool

vxdiag is ok for some functions, but tis2web and abs/airbag functions will not work because the vxdiag does not have the GM Uart pin9 populated which is needed for these functions pre 2007(ish) I use a mdi2 cloan and it works great, everything works, was able to flash calibration updates etc...

    l76 lifter tick

Your issue sounds more like warn main bearings to me. The issue i'm referring to is the DOD lifters on the early 6L that don't do anything. I'm going to do a DOD delete and check the cam bearings while i'm there. If they are warn i'll have to tear it down and replace them, if they look fine...

    Re painting vz ute tray

Wanting to get my vz ss tray re painted but I understand the tray is galvanised. Should I be worried about the sanding process removing the galvanised coating? If so, what's more important? A fresh paint or galv and scratches?

Confussed about which model i have..help

I have a thunder with L76 engine. Also interested in what differences, if any, there are with the thunder. Only difference I can see is the badge on the side and the hard lid design?

    Vz handbrake light not working

Pretty sure the warning lights are LEDs. Does the lamp illuminate when you turn the ignition on for a few seconds?

    Factory flash

Got a VZ SS ute (6L) and appears a previous owner has flashed some custom tune on it. From what I can tell its got no mods other than a cat back so I'm wanting to put it back to stock to hopefully improve the fuel consumption slightly. Can I flash a factory calibration onto it using and MDI2...

    l76 lifter tick

Thanks for the comments. The noise I have is definitely lifter tick. Do you think this is the sort of job I could do with the engine in the car? I'm thinking all new lifters, new cam and cam bearings. If i'm having to pull the engine then i'm thinking i may as well just leave it till it blows...

V8 vs V6 Exhaust on UTES

Interesting, thanks. My VZ 6L ute has an xforce on it, 3" by the looks of things. Its rusted to sh!t and i'm wanting to just get another one, but worried it wont fit or work. Now i know it fits, but what about the flow restriction?

    Led Dash Lighting

    does the dimmer still work?

V8 vs V6 Exhaust on UTES

Good to know, thanks. Any idea if this works both ways? My vz ute 6 litre needs a new cat back, it has an x-force exhaust on it but the x-force website says it wont work with 6litre.

    l76 lifter tick

Got a pretty significant lifter noise. From what i've read its somewhat common. Its pretty loud and slowly dissapears over a few minutes. I have no issues with replacing the lifters, but i'm just concerned that may not fix the problem. Have read a number of others who have replaced the lifters...

Vz ute wheel scraping when loaded

My 06 vz ss ute the rear wheels on one side scrape on the fender when the tray is filled with things not that heavy. It never used to do this. When I jacked it up and look under I cant see anything out of the ordinary. Is this likely to be the gas strut failing? Is there some way I can test to...

    dealership manuals?

With my corvette and Camaro, I subscribe to alldatadiy, which gives me full access to the factory workshop manuals, matrix diagrams for troubleshooting etc. Does anyone know of any online sources that can give me access to this information? Trying to troubleshoot a faulty crank sensor on my VZ...

    Passenger door wont wind down

So recently I tried to wind down the passenger window, and found out that it wouldn't. It is as if there is just no power at all to it. I'm thinking about pulling the front of the door off to see what the problem is. Is it a big job worth letting the experts do? Also, has anyone else had any...

    Failed lifter

Well I don't know, but what you said doesn't sound good... I always thought that white smoke was burning coolant. I checked google and that seems to agree with me! Is there a chance its just mist from the cool breeze(lol) hopes...

    Failed lifter

Hey guys, Thanks for all your help, sorry about not getting back here for a while. Luckily it hadn't done to much damage and is all back up and running now. I never got the camshaft replaced, mainly as i couldn't afford it, even though i know I may regret it in the long run. But I have one...

    Failed lifter

Well, worse has come to worse! There is massive engine damage so I am having the engine reconditioned. The mechanic has shown me all what has happened, there has obviously been valve to piston contact, to say the least. Im absolutely gutted! Cant believe this has happened when my mates $500...

    Failed lifter

Apparently a valve has completely shattered, so am now waiting on parts. Still anxious to know whether it hit the piston!

    Failed lifter

Lucky! So I'm not the only one with a vy ss with failed valve springs... :hmmm: Fingers crossed for me then aye

    Failed lifter

He's putting new springs in it tomorrow. He said he will then do it back up and see if it makes any noises, if so then the engine will need to come apart.
  25. grasshopper645

    Failed lifter

So the mechanic has said its valve springs that are the culprit - but needs to do more looking to see if it has damaged the pistons and if there is any other damage. How the frak could that happen on a not-that-old car??
  26. grasshopper645

    Failed lifter

Another thing I forgot to mention - after it happened the oil was still right where it should be - had not leaked at all. Also no alarms or warnings came on the dash when it happened, not that that really says a lot though =/

    Failed lifter

Thanks for your replies - unfortunately due to work issues I was unable to get the car towed to our mechanic today, however he came around to have a look. He said it sounds like a broken rocker. He said it is coming from near the top of the engine and 7 cylinders were firing. He didn't seem...

    Failed lifter

I have a 5.7 vy Ute which has been my dream for the passed 3 or 4 years. last night i was heading home along the motorway when i started loosing power. I pulled over, and the engine just died. I tried to turn it over and it started making this piercing loud metalic knocking sound. Had the...
