    Cammed ls1 surging

I've driven a WH with a Crow 219/227 @ 112, slower lobes and less lift than the Comp grind, that's how I know it should be ok for an LS1 with std converter.

    Cammed ls1 surging

L76 6.0 If it was in an auto, it's about as big as you can go with a little bit of a push on the brakes (in a 5.7 at least).

    Cammed ls1 surging

Mine is a Comp LSr 219/227 @ 112 and after some data logging and fiddling it's almost as docile as a std cam in that I can clutch out with foot off the accelerator in 2nd and it will happily lope along.

    Cammed ls1 surging

My VZ L76 was doing this with a small cam, the tuner was able to tune it all out with some extra data logging that I did for him. I didn't like how it carried on at pretty much walking pace in car parks.

    VZ SS temperature issues

It's a bit of a bugger to get to - it's under the intake manifold and looks like a bit of metal brake line connecting between the heads.

    VZ SS temperature issues

Mine showed similar issues when the steam pipe between the heads was corroded.

    Thicker oil for noisy L76?

Mine ticked worse with 25w50 (put in by mistake from mechanic) than 10w60. I got a cam installed, but ironically the valvetrain is noisier than before haha.

    06 VZ r8 with L98 engine?

There was a big argument over this on another forum - someone claimed to have seen an AWD Holden with an LS2 or L76 factory fitted, but no one could verify it.

    VY/VZ difference other than engine

I'd go the VY personally, or an LS1 VZ. Going off cost of fixing things when they break etc.

VZ SS Crewman Crank Angle Sensor Location

Check the other thread that I replied in. I found for stuff like that, an Ellerys service manual is quite helpful (though not 100% accurate with all the Gen 4 specific info).

VZ SS 6L damn error codes: P0335 Crankshaft Position Sensor A Circuit

Check the wiring - changing the sensor if you have extractors is personally one of the fiddliest, most annoying car related jobs I've ever done (very hard to get hands in to undo the bolt with aftermarket headers, and starter motor won't come out. So you either contort your hands and tools or...

When is an engine too old to modify and need replacing?

Do a compression / leakdown test, that should give you an idea of how healthy the current engine is. I have seen VT/WH with 250+k km have cams put in and run fine, I personally would also change lifters. Like some of the other people have said, could be worth considering an LS3 / L77 crate...

Best CAI for VZ SS Gen III?

I was told by my tuner that he had compared the old VCM type to the X-Air and the X-Air made more power. Make of that what you will, there's probably not a huge difference in them all.

Pros and cons of tuner pro vs kalmaker

Pretty sure that Castle Hill Exhausts (site sponsor) were selling these, couldn't hurt to ask them about the pros and cons. LS1 ECU is far more advanced than the old VN one, and can do more.

    Fitting ecotec into Vz

As much as it's preferable to the Alloymoo, as stated, it's illegal.

    VZ V8 Safety Mode Issues

you didn't get a brass bladed, 09+ throttle body by any chance? Had a lot of issues getting one to work on my VZ L76. Seriously not worth the bother if that's the case.

Installing Extractors WITHOUT a tune (deleting engine light)

you can get 'cheater tubes' for the rear 02s, Sureflo Exhaust sell them. I was under the impression that those shorty headers don't really give any power gain, it's well worth the $ to get it tuned though, the difference is quite noticeable.

    Forced Induction With DOD L77

I dare say you'd want to upgrade to a set of tie bar lifters for that sort of power level, so bye bye AFM gear. I've never actually heard of anyone using FI with AFM still active.

    Good MODS to do

yeah you can get AFM compatible cams these days so no need to pull the heads if you don't want to. I'm not going to turn this into yet another argument with Pirate about AFM, so whether you retain it or not is probably a decision best made after talking to whoever you get to install and tune...

    2018 V8 *update*

I doubt most of us will be able to afford a Corvette sadly, and yes they are definitely a different class of car to the Commodore / Camaro. I wish it was the new Cadillacs they were going to bring out here to sway people away from the Euro sedans!

    Oil for service

I'm far from a Nulon fanboy, but I think it's laudable that they got testing done to back up their claims, how many other oil companies do that? I couldn't give a flying fark about online reviews on oil, really the only way to tell is to not only have an idea of how the vehicle was serviced, but...

VZ SSZ feels slow, thinking of camming (LS1 Auto)

read the thread about VE SS cam selection just below this one ;)
  23. B

    Oil for service

Ok well some random on a forum telling cool stories about he hates Nulon is not going to sway me either way. When it comes down to the absolute nitty gritty of it, frequency of changes is probably the most important factor (especially with semi or mineral oils). Blaming a commercial brand of...

SVZ Wagon Tyres Potenza Adrenaline RE001 235/45/17 OR what do you prefer?

nothing wrong with wanting to put decent rubber on, even on a V6.

SVZ Wagon Tyres Potenza Adrenaline RE001 235/45/17 OR what do you prefer?

I was going to give the PS3 ago on mine next time around - I've tried 2 different models of Hankook's "Ultra High Performance" Ventus S1 noble2 tyres, and it wants to break loose under fast, tight cornering. Not impressed when it feels like I'm driving on $110 el cheapo tyres like that.

    Oil for service

This is a new range of oils - that vid you linked is from 2009. Similar sort of thing as to when my mechanic tries to quote the debunked Street Commodores "test" that used a grease machine (and oils from 10 years ago) to try and flog me Royal Purple! When it comes to oil, so many people on so...

    Oil for service

I use Castrol Edge 10w60 personally (but in a V8), but Nulon have a website with some fairly detailed testing results here: MOLY DTC - Nulon oils put up against it's competitors which was quite interesting. I'd give their oil a go next time.

VE SS Auto, what size CAM for stock converter?

Interesting to see the square pattern cams for L98/LS3 in their recommendations.
  29. B

VE SS Auto, what size CAM for stock converter?

Comp LSr 269 219/227 @ 112 LSA will work with stock converter, or Camtech 216/226 @ 112 LSA. Also the VCM21 as was mentioned. I run the Comp in a manual, but it's the perfect street cam IMO.

Worth Upgrading Swaybars in VZ SS?

I was also told by Quadrant Suspension when I got their Bilstein / H&R kit that when using good quality shocks / springs, sway bars are not recommended, due to 'overdoing' the handling and making it less predictable. Also +1 for spending the money on decent tyres.

    Cruise Control not working?

I bought second hand as new ones were not available cheap at the time. I can confirm that it fixed the problem 100% though. I used to have to hold it down onto set and then push the button for cruise to even engage!
  32. B

    Cruise Control not working?

This also turned out to be the case for me - wiring had broken in the stalk, but was still making intermittent contact, which was giving the sort of symptoms you described.

    Throttle Body Repairs

I've yet to see the silver blade TB's for under $5-600, let me know if you know of somewhere that is!

Raise idle on ls1 to hide lumpy cam??? (Yellow stickered)

cam shouldn't matter - just put a V6 exhaust on it, from what I've seen anyway. You'll need to refit your airflow meter if it's unplugged and revert your intake if you have an OTR (not sure whether OTR + AFM still counts as having an 'exposed' filter).

    AFM mode

I'm repeating what I've asked professional tuners on the subject of AFM and why they don't enable it. These are people with 10+ years experience with LS engine tuning and building. For you to refer to them as incompetent, or backward thinking (and for your own view to be the only valid one) is...

    AFM mode

Pirate I didn't know you considered yourself a tuner these days. Nonetheless, I think it's exceedingly poor form of you to bag out the majority of those in the industry here, not to mention arrogant to think you can do a better job. I (and anyone else with a brain) would take the word of...

    vz ls2 6.0l engine problem

mate I can potentially save you a lot of time and effort here. Check the loom going down behind the back of the engine near the headers to the crank position sensor - I had this exact same issue a few months ago and nearly went insane trying to work it out, the harness can melt on the rear most...

    AFM mode

Well as Grennan mentioned it's more about the lag of turning it on and off, and the exhaust harmonics than wringing every last kw out, especially when tuning on 98 and achieving very similar fuel economy with it off regardless. The 2 tuners I've asked about it said that there just isn't any...
  39. B

    AFM mode

Yeah you pretty much said what I was going to reply with Grennan. I know you have your own very strident views on AFM Pirate, but the tuners I've spoken to personally don't feel that it's of any benefit to keep turned on in the Gen 4. I also don't think that you should use that as an...
  40. B

    AFM mode

You're best off asking the tuner why he turned it off, you'll likely get the same response as what Grennan gave you. Pirate likes AFM, most tuners do not, and its not through a lack of competence as he implies. If your tuner thought it was beneficial, or could be kept and used to a benefit, I'm...
