    [Ecotec] VT/VX/VY Manual Conversion tips

Hi guys, here's the photo of the auto and manual speed sensor and back up switch plug diagrams from the workshop manual: Sorry I can't help with any of the other issues - did this conversion nearly 10 years ago and sold the car in 2016!

Low Speed Tolerance Could Increase Crashes - Study

My attention to the road becomes significantly worse during double demerits, because I spend so much time staring at the speedo instead of the road. And I know I do it, but I instinctively can't help it. It's even worse on the motorbike because I have to look down to see the speedo, and it's...

So I'm abandoning the Commodore family...

Yes, it's definitely more just the fact that it's a Mitsubishi, than being any actual quantifiable reason to bag it :). With all that aside, I enjoy driving it, it's the right size for my needs, and while I don't need a serious off-roader, it's nice to have a vehicle that is more capable than...

So I'm abandoning the Commodore family...

All good! Yes, I was totally surprised that I ended up with it... Two weeks ago it hadn't even crossed my mind to check out any Mitsubishis, then a friend mentioned the quality of the 4x4 system in the Pajero, so I did some reading, and the Challenger ended up ticking all the boxes for me. My...

So I'm abandoning the Commodore family...

That's pretty much how I've pictured it. On the optimistic side, with that many models we might actually get lucky and end up with one or two decent cars... Hopefully there won't be any more Epicas and Vivas! What I was thinking about yesterday that I'd really like to see is a new Torana or...

So I'm abandoning the Commodore family...

Yeah, I honestly think I couldn't have found a better replacement for the wagon! Especially at the price. But your experience mirrors that of everything I've read of people who own the newer models - they're just great cars. It also gives me the option to go off-road just for the hell of it...

    Has Supacheap stopped selling Nulon?

To be honest, while I don't spend much time in Supercheap, I don't think I've ever noticed Nulon on their shelves - I could be wrong, though. Autobarn is the place I tend to frequent more often as I have a mate who works there and they've always had better service in my experience. Bullseye...

So I'm abandoning the Commodore family...

It has finally come time to bid farewell to my VX wagon. I've spent the last couple of years debating about what to get to replace it, needing something with plenty of cargo room, diesel, manual, and 4x4. The wagon has been an interesting journey - extremely reliable, I learned basically...

[NSW] 2002 SII VX Exec Wagon (white) - Getrag conversion - $3000

I'm planning on buying a car in the next couple of weeks, and just trying to see if there is any definite interest in buying my wagon before I commit to a trade-in. I'll want the car gone as soon as possible, so if nobody has placed a deposit on this car by the time I have my new one, I'll be...

what did you do to your car today?

Bought new +120 headlight globes, wiper blades and ignition leads. As I was fitting the leads, I noticed coolant pooled on the ground. I knew I had a leak but it wasn't that bad. Turns out the heater tap was on its way out. Bought a replacement from Bursons after finishing the leads (used...

what did you do to your car today?

Replaced the tailgate struts with a $20 pair off eBay. Was amazed at how much stronger the new struts are - one on its own was enough to hold up the tailgate with plenty of pressure to spare. With the two in, I just about have to hang off it to get it to come down.

what did you do to your car today?

Got to work this morning without crashing, exploding, falling apart, or overheating. Instead, fuel economy has improved significantly especially down the freeway since cleaning out the throttle body and plenum.

So I dropped a socket into the inlet manifold...

I did actually try a coat hanger... in the wrong port ... several times :) it wasn't until I got the magnetic tool that I realised the reason I couldn't get it was because I was looking in the wrong place :) That magnetic tray is a great idea, but I keep spending money and I really should stop...

So I dropped a socket into the inlet manifold...

Good idea for those spray can caps! I'm hopeless, I usually just stick all the nuts and bolts along the edges of the bonnet.

So I dropped a socket into the inlet manifold...

Haha, yeah I did the same thing, I thought it had gone down a different hole... But anyway, the $2.50 flexible magnetic tool from Supercheap did the trick once I actually worked out I was looking in the wrong spot.

So I dropped a socket into the inlet manifold...

It's not too bad, definitely an option if I can get the right hose. And I don't mind fishing through the vacuum bag to retrieve the socket if I have to :)

So I dropped a socket into the inlet manifold...

It was a 10mm socket attached to a 50mm 1/4 drive extension. The rubber hose is a good idea, unfortunately I don't think I have any but it's easy enough to get at Supercheap/Autobarn! I have a couple of good magnets I can use. I'll see how I go with that and if I have any trouble I'll look...

So I dropped a socket into the inlet manifold...

There was already a thread on this, but since I can't get to the shops to get an extendable magnetic tool/claw grabby tool tonight, I do have a question: Is it possible that it has fallen into the cylinder? I've tried using a magnetised steel rod to get it out but it didn't have the reach...

Best oil and filter for 225k LS1 PLEASE HELP WITH ADVICE!!!!!

For the record, my V6 has clocked over 300,000km and I'm not happy using the 20w/50 Nulon high KM oil in it. I get more drivetrain noise, fuel economy is very slightly worse, and the car feels a tad sluggish. My injectors are also in need of a clean, and the oil appears to have exacerbated the...

OEM springs vs standard height King Springs

Ride height seems to be fine at all four corners, although the driver's side front sits a bit lower, which I'd attributed to the strut being well past its use-by date. Thanks for the tip, I'll leave them be.

OEM springs vs standard height King Springs

Ok, I get that this question has probably been asked before but I haven't found an answer yet. Is it worth replacing my 14-year-old OEM springs with a set of new standard height King Springs? I'm not interested in lowering it at all. I'm doing front struts soon and I figure if I'm going...

    [Ecotec] VT/VX/VY Manual Conversion tips

Ok, so the V6 manuals didn't come with cruise control, so no connector exists for the clutch. I did get around this by using a couple of wires + connectors, but I can't remember exactly how it works. If it detects a closed circuit when you hit the brake, then you can wire them in parallel...

    Gearbox troubles

Interesting, I didn't realise the T56 has synchro on reverse. But, if it works to put it in another gear then into reverse, it's not really a big deal :) You'd have reason to worry if it wasn't going in at all.
  25. SpaceYam

    Gearbox troubles

The short answer is that reverse gear generally has no synchro, whereas all of the other gears do in modern manual gearboxes. Putting it in another gear (I usually use 4th just out of habit) can line up the gears so it goes in nicely. Alternatively, you can slip the clutch very slightly while...

    Aftermarket steering racks

I'm not sure about the wheel bearings, so I'll have to check them. Pads are roughly the same age as the rack itself - about 2.5 years old, with probably less than 20k on them as the car hasn't done all that much driving. I also did tie rod ends when I did the rack and I'm fairly sure they're...

    Aftermarket steering racks

I'm talking about ones like this, which claim to be brand new aftermarket units: Holden Commodore Vtii VX VY Power Steering Rack Brand NEW | eBay I'm sure it's not the pump as it's a very physical noise, metal on metal, as though something has come loose. Most of the time the steering is...
