How to customise your engine cover

Just wanted to give a quick speil on making your engine cover the way you want it to look. (Probably common sense, sorry if im insulting your intelligence)

1) Take off the four (4) nuts
2) Prepare cover by removing dirt and oil, even give a coat in prepsol.
3) Depending on quality of cover and amount of scratches, use plastic primer
4) lightly sand the primer and remove all the dust
5) paint base colour, minimum of 2 coats (i used normal gloss black spray paint)
6) buy desired colour for lettering (i used hobby enamel paint)
7) give two coats, using ultra fine for indented lettering and slightly larger for embossed lettering
8) clear coat is desired (personally i didn't use one)
9) replace back on vehicle

Nothing
Looks good, colours go well together and the black would help keep it looking tidy.. Nicely done.

how easy is it to put the cover back on? i heard from a mate that you have to get it just right, otherwise it will stuff something up?

Easy as too put back on. Takes all of about 20 seconds (just tighten some nuts). Theres nothing to stuff up, its just a plastic cover, no real purpose other than to 'beautify' the engine bay.

when putting it back on you can crush the rubber grommets that keep it in place but they are cheap to get anyway.

from what i've heard the cover is there to heat the engine quicker to optimal temperature.
but dont hold me to that dunno if its true or not

A bit of plastic in my opinion aint going to do much when your talking about cylinders igniting and making combustion.

i'm actually in the middle of mark 2 of my engine cover recolouring. Will be a little different than usual and i think it will raise some eyebrows.

Will post a web address when i have completed the site.

VR Statesman
Will a cover fit a series one VR Statesman??

:p
Any ideas if the covers will go on a VR Series 1 Statesman
I don't care what they do, if the are presented well they look **** hot.
At a car show last year I noticed one on a VN and it was royal blue with about 20 coats of clear and shone something awesome, a real eyecatcher
