HSV has broken the Guinness world record using their new STOCK HSV Maloo R8, driven by Mark Skaife.

Basically Mark Skaife broke the old world speed record for a pickup/utility vehicle which was held by Daimler Chrysler in a Dodge RAM SRT-10 8.3 litre V10, with a top speed of 248.783 km/h. HSV’s Production Stock LS2 6.0 litre V8 Maloo R8 Ute smashed the barrier set by the Dodge, setting the new speed at 271.44 kph. The run was conducted under strictly controlled conditions on the Federal Governments Woomera Prohibited Area in outback South Australia with HSV’s five time Australian Touring car and Bathurst winning champion Mark Skaife at the helm.

sensational. congrats to hsv and skaifey. well, knowing ford and fpv, they'll copy hsv and try to beat the record. probably make their ford/fpv ute look like the maloo that was driven by skaifey.

Pajero LWB Wagon, Power/economy what's that ???
Great effort.
The bar has now been set, I'm sure a comp between Holden, Ford and Chrysler/Dodge will ensue. Might be some tricked out impractical (as utes) but fun vehicles produced.

 i'll emphasise the stockness of the Maloo in the thread up top.

Im sure we will see an upgrade with the VE HSV Range which will still use the same shape Maloo for a while...im sure something more than 297kw will come out.
