Well driving home yesterday my temp went off the scale! engine was still running beautifully just a warning light and sound telling me over temp so I pulled up and turned it off straight away. Today after getting it towed home I started the car, ran beautifully again but heated up way too quick and continued to heat up, I only let it get near half before stopping the car again.

This makes me think its the thermostat......? Would this sound like the problem i have? If so where can I find the thermostat to replace???

Cheers guys.

'07 VZ Acclaim wagon.
All the way at the back of the motor, on the passenger side.

Try changing your radiator cap first though.

Well bad news! Replaced the radiator cap today and thought it was all sweet, so I let the engine idle and after 5 mins temp starting sky rocketing again! Quickly switch off and fans continued to run until engine was cooled again....

So next step is to remove the inlet manifold and replace the thermostat :(

Could I get a how to on this anyone? Also what will I need to complete the job??? like gaskets/sealant? etc etc

Cheers

A similar thing hapened to mine, It overheated in a drive thru on that new years eve when it got to 42. I just managed to get onto the highway before it went off the scale to see of i could get some air into the radiator, but it just kept going up. I pulled over when the engine derated power and let it cool down just to under the red zone. When I pulled off, it just went off the scale again. So I let it cool down to under halfway, and then everything as fine. Never had a problem since.

I figured the thermostat gets jammed or something until the engine reaches a respectable temperature, but In your case, I don't know what to make of it.
