Looking at an 06 Calais with only 140k on the clock, Engine was neglected and and overheated and blew head gasket. Mechanic from the shop it went to bough tit and has fitted another engine that he fully reco'd timing chains the lot, so effectively its got a 0km engine in it, needs a good detail and has a few little cosmetic blemishes, is 5k the right sort of money for something like this?
cheers

Sure there is no other problems that he doesn't want to lure you back with?

Such as when you drive out you're like woah this is a bargain! Then you turn the corner and you've gotta go back for something

Yea i have thought of that, he is a local guy to me and has said if theres any hassles with it after we buy it he is happy to come sort them out for us, its being supplied with a RWC, he is a family guy just trying to make a few bucks to help pay the bills, i just dont know if 5k is a bargain or its the right money, or its to much, to my mind its an ok deal for a reco motor, but i wanted to refer to those on here that are more in the know

Have you looked at Carsales for prices. I am surprised that they start at $3.5K, and there are heaps to be had for what I consider dirt cheap, but they could also be close to being buggered.
For $5K, if you have the spare money, and want to, why not ?

VZ Crewman, VZ Cross 8, & ya mum.
$200 to replace lights at the cheapest.
$300 to get roof lining redone.
$200-$300 for door trims and window seals.
Roof trims can be painted up nice, no matter how bad they are.
Seats can be pricey for the Calais.

Engine was neglected
If the engine was neglected (unserviced) to the point of blowing head gasket(s) you can be very confident that the rest of the vehicle will be just as phuked!
