I currently have REX 4-1 short tube headers that finish in the standard position.

I am considering going to proper long tube headers as I think it might give a better note / more beat / throb / note separation.

am I correct?

will bigger primaries also assist this?

I know I will lose low down power but I just want it to sound mint.

cheers

You will get a better sound but you will have to also consider getting new cats along with the headers and then a tune or at least your tuner to fix any issues with the cats being in a different position.
So you could be up for $1600 for headers, $800 for cats and pipes, then another $200 to have your tuner check and turn off engine lights for your o2 sensors being in a different position.
If your still happy with that, I'd suggest 1 3/4 long tubes with 200cell cats by manta (difilippo)

I've got rex headers on my vf with kpm 3" system, also have pacemaker 1 7/8 headers and 3" kpm on VE head/ cam ute sound both the same to be honest. Years ago I changed my cam only VE sedan from pacemaker try Y's to 1 7/8 headers. Tuner overlayed the dyno graphs no lose of power down low, picked up power from 2500 to redline about a 10kw gain.
