Question, will a 2.5' 100 cell improve the sound of an early V6 if already have 2.5" Cat back with res and Pacies? I have been reading people wanting to improve the sound of late V6s but I was of the belief the only real option is 2 more cyls......

Just realised I wanted this in the VR forum, but not a biggy since the exhaust is the same or pretty close in a VP. The Cat i was considering was just a DEA 100 cell.

I've always preferred the sound of the 100's over 200+ they do have a distinct crackle to them.

I don't however think 100 cells meet ADR, that hasn't stopped me running them in the past just something to be wary of.

Yeah I think 200 is min. I would keep the old Cat regardless, even though I can sell it for a $100 to the wreckers, as I'd want to be able to quickly refit the original, if I got defected. I've read it's worth it on a V8 as it helps improve the note, but have always thought you really are wasting time on a V6, whatever the engine? Well the general consensus seems the be that anyway.

I will add that with my 1.9s, Mace CAI, Pacies and 2.5" Cat back I do have some ok sound when I floor it, from inside the cab anyway. If I was to lose the rear resi it would sound awful and raspy, as it used to and droned like a bastard, at 2k sitting on 100kph, with the old system....

I had a 100 cell on my old V6 with pacies and a 2.5" catback, the 100 cell definately had more throat to it than the OEM one thats for sure.

IYO did it sound good, say better than stock and is it worthwhile?

It's been a lotta years but I'm gonna say yes, it didn't seem as droney from memory as well.

Make sure you go a metallic cat and not a ceramic job too, they make a big difference in sound too.

Ok might have to do some research on who has metallic cat. Not sure a cheap DEA would be metallic?

I think you'll find they are, pretty sure mine was only like $120.

It will say in the descriptions of the ads whether they are metallic core or ceramic.

Cool I will add a 100 cel cat to my list of upgrades planned for once the new shed is erected. I think it will be a safe first step and not expensive. I could look at a smaller resi, but I run the risk of it sounding awful and droneny. I'd then have to pay twice getting the old resi welded back on. Good thing with a cat swap is I can do the swap myself.
