Morning all
I have a second hand Evoke 2014 model.
I understand this comes with a standard tow capacity of 1200kg.
How can I tell if the kit on the vehicle is 1200kg or 1600kg.
I have no documents relating to this and can’t tell from a visual inspection.
Is there anything I can look for to tell?
Many thanks

The 1200 has a flat tongue held to a flat plate by bolts, whereas the 1600 has a square hollow tube projecting from the bumper, which the hollow square tongue fits into. The tongue is held in place with a large pin and clip. There may be a sticker or plate attached underneath the bar if it is still in place.

There should be a towing compliance plate next to the normal compliance plate inside the drivers door jamb. This will tell you the towing capacity.

If the vehicle is fitted with the 3lt engine, I think that there maybe some modifications to the cooling system required to tow over 1200kg (and up to a max of 1600kg?). The modifications may just be the removal of covers that are blocking some of the front air vents.

Thanks so much - called a tow fitter today and he said exactly the same.
Looks like I have the 1600kg - which is great.

Have a look here for a little bit of information - https://www.drive.com.au/motor-news/vf-commodore-fast-facts-20130529-2nblt.html

“To improve the aerodynamics and fuel economy of the Evoke, the lower section of the front grille has been blanked off at each end. With these in place, the car has a towing capacity of 1200kg but they need to be removed for the 1600kg tow pack due to the extra cooling required”

Have a look at the accessories installation manual which from memory defines the install process including blank removal in the evoke models. You can find the PDF linked in this thread.

if a wagon, will be 1600kg as all genuine wagon towbars are 1600kg (no 1200 available)
sedans as described above

but both wagons and sedans can get a heavy duty 2100kg kit as well
(with compulsory lectric trailer brake kit)

So does Holden have their own trailer brake kit or do they recommend a specific unit from some after market manufacturer?
