I'm getting a set of 19" wheels put on my vs on Saturday. I currently have 15" interceptors on it. Just want to know how much my speedo will be out at speeds from 40km to 110km Thanks for any help
tyre width/profile will dictate difference in speedo reading. use the link above, punch in the tyre profile you have on the car now (eg. 205/65r15), and what the new wheels have (eg. 235/40r19).
Hi , your rolling diameter will almost be the same , corhijasna hit the nail on the head with his comment , also a good way to check it via a GPS ( sat nav ) as some have your current speed , I used one for my VS , I'm running 15x7 interceptors ( ex cop rims ) and 225/60/15 tyres and my car at 104 kph via the speedo is actually 100 kph via the GPS , there are places that can fix your speedo via a black box unit and a GPS unit then they adjust it and then it's fixed at the correct speed , just remember one thing , each time you change rim size you'll need to re adjust the black box settings . I know this a long reply but i hope it's useful , I used to have to explain this to customers for years as I spent 13 years in the tyre industry ..... Good luck
Thanks for all the replies back. Can't remember what the exact tyre size is but I'll use that link Saturday to give me a rough guide. jyplht would a jaycar speedo correction kit be easy enough to use or could I get my memcal re-tuned?
It would be cheaper and easier to buy the correct tyres as 205/56R15 and 235/35R19s are within 1km of each other {facepalm} 225/65R15s will throw your speedo out further then 19s with correct tyres
Speedo data isn't processed by the tune/ECU on the VS, gotta get the corrector kit. Make sure you tap it in before any trip computers you might have though.
So I got my wheels put on 19x8 with 245/35 tyres and now when I go over a bump in the road the tyre hits the left front strut tower. Is there anyway to fix this?
ideal = get smaller/narrower tyres or wheels with lower offsets dodgy and not roadworthy = get 5mm spacers slightly less dodgy depending how competent you are = massage spring seat to clear the tyre where it rubs
You would probably be fine with some 235/40's. If it's only doing it on the one side it might be indicating that the wheel bearings are getting a bit sloppy. I had this problem on my VN going for 14's to 17's. Fortunately on the VN I just removed the bearings, cleaned them up, re-greased them and then set the bearing pre-load to suit the larger diameter tyres which unfortunately isn't possible from VR onwards with the sealed bearing hubs.
So just slightly loosen the two nuts and wined in the camber adjuster half a turn clockwise, tighten the bolts backup, throw the wheel back on and test. if you find the car starting to pull to that side , just do the same to the other side. Would recommend getting a wheel alignment but it shouldnt be too bad..
heres some pics of how it sits now. will the camber bolt help out this? the tyre doesnt rub on the side just that round part where the spring sits in
you have plenty clearance there.. no signs of the tyre rubbing on the shock either.. are you sure its not guard rubbing??
