S2 VU Auto, Saweeet.
hey, been a while since i posted anything, but I've been a happy lurker all the same :yeah:

anyway, my VU ute is due for its 150'000 service, and by 150'000 i mean i let it slip to 158ish by now. it keeps flashing the 150'000 on the screen when it starts :p

anyway i have the 175'000 basic warranty with it, but the holden dealership i got it from i dont trust at all, so I'd rather take it somewhere like ultra tune, or if anyone else has a better recomendation.

pretty much im not sure how much im gonna be expected to be set back.

i know im gonna need new brakes, but beyond that the cars in great condition. this will be the first service im putting it in for since i bought it.

so yeah, what do you guys usually part with on services... im just worried someones gonna say, "oh yeah at the 150 mark its expected that they replace your engine and charge you double!"

thanks.

i just got my vx done at the holden dealership where i bought the car from, i have to because of warranty, but for 80,000kms they wanted $444 for a v8 5.7L, got a fone call and hour or so later asking if i wanted to get the front brakes done, umm how much kays do i have left on it i asked guy said roughly 6-8,000km im like **** that still alot of kays left so i asked how much for the front brakes he said $300, so i told him sorry ill do that another time.

got the car at 5:00 pretty much did wat i wanted them to do, went to wash my car that nite because they do **** washes and dont dry it properly started spraying the car and noticed finger printes of oil or someshit on my car, and the bastards even washed it, wasnt happy about that so im going to speak my mind next time.

i would go to my trusted mechanic, but problem is i got the warranty which states i must go to them unless i live 50km + away from them, so im screwed for a bit

VT II Berlina Wagon
80K Service Quote from GMH for a 3.8 VTII

Got a 6cyl Berlina VT II Wagon - auto. Approaching 80K service. Phoned local GMH dealer for a quote - they said "about" $455 according to book service. Anything else like pads, is extra.

So, I looked at the service book for the 80K service. 1.4 hours + a bit for gearbox fluid change. They don't do much really - lots of checking and looking mostly. They don't even adjust gearbox bands I dont think.

Si, I'm ditching regular book services by GMH and taking it to a brake specialist, a gearbox specialise, etc, as needs be for a checkup each 12 months. Takes more time and buggerising around though. I'll do minor mtce and 10K oil changes myself. I think the book services are grossly overpriced for what they actually do.

I find word of mouth is the best way to find good reliable mechanics. This site should have a noticeboard where we can add good and bad reviews for all holden dealerships and other service centres then we would all know where is good to go and who we should avoid.

I always service my own car so I can't rip myself off :)
I also get trade prices so I can get parts a little cheaper

If I couldn't f***** doing it I have a friend that owns his own mechanical shop around the corner where I work
