Recently bought a lovely set of the WH 16'' Calais rims but the rims centre hole at the back is too small for the VX hub centers.
How do I overcome this problem, is it possible to machine the hole out using home based tools and if so which tools or does one need to take the rims to a wheel place and if so who does this kind of work. I've seen posts in here where others have had the hubs machined to fit the rims but I'm thinking for the alloy rims having the rims machines maybe a tad easier.

Update - sorry my hubby tells me its a VZ.

Do not do this.
Ask a wheel/tyre shop or automotive engineer about it. Wheel repair places might also be able to help you out.

Also, the WH was based on the VT, the rims should fit right on. Wheels from the WM/VE should be the only ones you need to get machined, and the higher models come with 18's at a minimum I'm pretty sure.

Also reading one of your other threads you say you already have your hubs machined to the smaller VE spec? I'm confused.

Looks as if I'd better jack up our new VX wagon and do some measuring with a set of calipers.
New commodore, 2002 VX wagon 85,000klms $6,000 oh what a feeling

Update - sorry my hubby tells me its a VZ.

WH Calais wheels?

PS they should fit. Might just have to much surface rust on the hub making it a really tight fit.

Got out the 150mm calipers this arvo and the centre hole is 69.5mm which leaves about 1mm or less to remove.
We are going to grind them out with an air grinder tonight using a carbide cutting bit, easy peasy Japanesey.
Probably only needs the thickness of a bee's foreskin removed.

Are you physically broken?

How about you clean the rust off of your hubs and fit the wheels.

Wheels from the Holden VB Commodore 1979 - Holden VZ Commodore 2006 will all bolt on to each other, With offset changes as it came into the IRS commodores.

It is not like you are trying to fit a Holden VE wheel onto your VX. Going by your posts, Maybe you shouldn't work on cars.

Cheers

Post pics up after you grind the hub.

Come on now why be so nastey, this is a forum site and unless I ask the questions how will I know.

Yes I have cleaned all the connecting surfaces first and still they won't fit, I even wire wheeled the front and the rear hub surfaces and no go.
Yesterday while at Repco I bought a small engines cylinder hone and will give that a go first.
When you get a look at the centre hole there is actually very little material to remove.
Cheers
Kate

I ended up using a carbide grinding tip and that thing cuts like a hot knife in butter, now the rims fit purrfectly.

Could you show us a picture of the rims? perhaps even from google.
they must be VE rims if they truly dont fit, or cheap remakes
