I used 6 sets of 18s on a ve sedan (150000kms) and always ran 40psi and the tyres seemed to wear flat the across the whole width of the tyre

He's a tyre fitter, not a rocket scientist/brain surgeon.

I check my 18s to 40 at each fill up. Cold car next morning tyres are just under 39 with my own gauge. Wear pattern is flat. Handling is good.

Yep, always run 42psi in the front, 40psi on the rear. Checked when cold, Rotate every 5000 km.
Agree with GOSSIE, 40 seems to be the sweet spot for longevity, wear rate :blah blah:

On our patrol cars ( NZ Police ) get almost maximum inflation running Bridgestones Potenza or Turanza , depending on the car , highway patrol or general duties , almost all nitrogen filled .

36psi all round and 40psi in the rear if it's loaded.

Surprised NZP would use nitrogen based on cost and availability and probably minimal benefits for most of the fleet usage.

Adjust your pressures to suit your car/rims, how you drive it and roads your driving on. Personally for 18's, 42 front 36-38 rear, i tend to drive it like it's stolen at times which gives the outer edges a workout. Raining i drop to around 36 front 34 rear for. Best to check wearing / handling.
