Hello all,

Now that VB has for some time been basically finished, been looking for another project.

Locally I found a 1981 Volvo 244 GL. It's yellow with brown velour interior. 2.3L injected motor. Mechanically it's great, main issues are the exterior paint isn't very good (tiny bit of rust, 4 different shades of yellow are present...), a couple of interior defects and the AC is dead due to seized compressor. Paid $800, getting a pink slip this week. Will definitely get a new set of tyres......

Pics coming tomorrow.....

What. Have. You. Done? C3PO?

Oh for the love of god! What drew you to this car? Which devil has possessed you?

OK, but on a serious note, does it drift?

Looking forward to the pictures.

Here is a pic

Bit small and grainy from the carsales ad, will get better one tomorrow......

Plans are as follows:
-replace broken engine mount, wiper blades and number plate light bulbs so it can pass roadworthy (fairly urgent issue, rego expires 2nd december)
-replace the disintegrated interior parts
-neutralise the rust forming on corner of rear window (not doing full 'weld in new panel' repair due to limited budget)
-respray the areas of the car where paint has worn away to primer (rough aerosol can job!)
-do full service (incl. timing belt)
-rectify leaky diff
-fix broken radio - probably get a new head unit and antenna.
-get new AC compressor.

what drew me to the car? it was $800 and for the money car is in quite reasonable condition. I live in rural nsw and car was reasonably close (100km drive...)
Looking at classic car viewpoint.....for a while Volvo was a benchmark in auto engineering. 2.8 million made over 19 yr period.
Engine puts out 103kw to the VB's 71kw so that and the manual box means it drives nicely on open road. Car is surprisingly quiet and refined for 415k km. Ride is excellent but VB has much sharper handling.

I had an 86 with the 2.3 and 4 speed manual with auto OD. Was a tide me over between cars. Got to say while it was embarrassing it was a great car. Never again though, lol.

Update: got the air-con repair booked in and getting a respray done. Today for $70 at the wreckers I got basically all the critical trim items I needed off a complete 244 they had!
