Hello all,

It's been a Commodore-less 15 months so here is my latest acquisition.

1999 VTII S pack, supercharged. Picking it up this weekend. Price was $2500, 252000 on the clock. Looking to keep it/maintain it as a modern classic vehicle (looking at what's on offer Supercharged V6s aren't that common). VTII are from an era that is now disappearing so decided to get one while I can at the bottom of the depreciation curve.

Plans.....car is an ex-trade-in from the Holden Dealer in Goulburn, so its being sold undetailed. I am going to start by giving it a good clean and polish. Next I'll make sure that all roadworthy/safety items are fine (rego is up in June 2017), then I will fix any other mechanical flaws it may have. If there are minor dings I will have my PDR guy to have a look at it. As the vehicle is in Goulburn and I am in Orange, I haven't had a chance to inspect it and I am relying 100% on the sellers notes in the eBay ad.

This should be an interesting project. It looks like a good starting point at a very good price.

I'm just looking at the pics, its got a few genuine factory accessories so I guess it's had at least one careful owner.

Looking at pics I have already priced up a new seat base (~$70) and a good secondhand filler cap with good paint on it (~$50), both off eBay. Neither were available at my local wreckers, interestingly

Picked the car up

Good points
- Engine and transmission is sound
- Body ok, paint good with only 3 door dings
- Interior basically sound, power windows and stereo works
- no warning lights

Bad points
- AC dead
- noisy rear diff (I am hoping it just needs some oil!)
- brakes need work (steering shudder under braking, pulls to left slightly)
- seat bolster on drivers side has collapsed
- front end issue - steering wheel not centred, some highway vibration
- exterior rubber trim has perished

Diff will be shagged but it's a good excuse to put some decent gears in it ;)

Might as well just do all the bushes all round then it's good for another 10 years....

Uh oh once I cleaned the dirt off noticed that the Passenger front guard, front door and rear door have previously been resprayed. Paint is flaking quite badly at edges.

So much for a cheap build :(

Bugger.

That's the problem with buying vehicles sight unseen :(
