1j 2jz toyota or v6/v8 commodore

Why do people put the toyota 2jz motors in commodores? A friend recently showed me them and they seem to go hard. but as i grew up with v8s etc i really dont understand the attraction? can you get more hp out of a worked 3.8 then the 2jz?

I want to take my mate to the willowbank winternationals to show him true cubic inch horsepower.

my uncle played a huge part setting up willowbank dragway, i loved growing up listening to the big v8's roar. never got into the poofo 4cyls
