Needs a ride thread in the vr-vs section, would love to see some photos .
They're great utes , ol 5l has nice low down torque that's very useable in daily driving, just fuel usage sucks compared to more modern cars.
yeah mate, it goes well. its very thirsty like you said

I'm lucky, half of trip to work is 80k and up so even with the cam get about 14l per 100

Check all the basic service items and make sure the base timing on the dizzy is 10°BTDC or try 12°BTDC (poor mans tune) with some decent fuel in it.

beauty mate, i only put bp premium in. im stuck on that brand for some reason. im going to try and do the fault code thingy. ive never attempted it before. i have a sneaky suspicion the o2 sensor is dicky. one minute its quite fumy and the next its not. thanks for the tip on the timing. im getting my head around so many little technical things due to all the boys on this site.thanks again.

To update

- I am considering reinstating the Sydney Olympic 2000 livery - have sought a quote from a local signage company.

I'm in two minds about this. If I wanted to I could go out and put it to 'exactly' as it was during the games. But this would involve removing mudflaps, bonnet protector, floormats, and even reinstating the original registration number, which is available albeit not on an olympic plate. Seat covers and window tinting would technically go as well. Or I could leave as is, as it was, as a private vehicle c.2002.

- 9 months after tightening intake manifold bolts, creamy oil has not returned!

As your pics show, some venicles had specific colour schemes while others had large decals. Would it be worth considering going the decal route, finding out who made them for Holden and seeing if the patterns still exist?

The local signage company is doing up a design that should be fairly close based on these pics and measurements on the vehicle.

However, I have identified people involved with the Olympic vehicle program via internal GMH publications, and I have located some of these folks on social media. I have dithered about contacting them directly.

Being 2500 sets of signage, it would have had to be a large factory or multiple businesses filling the order.

Edit: Anyway I did get the quote

$2k!!!

Err..... no. I might try another couple of places but if it’s too far north of $1k I’ll give it a miss. Can not justify it whilst I am trying to save for a house again....

Hmm. Don't think I'd go there either. Way too much unless it altered the value of the car. I imagine there can't be too many marked Olympic cars running around these days.

Well ATM it’s insured for 4 - if I sold it it would be sold purely as a special interest vehicle with that as the asking price, and I’d include all the Olympic memorabilia and clothing for another few hundred. With the stickers.....who knows what it’d be worth? It’d be one of a kind. As a comparison one of the torch relay SS Commodores a few months back went for $35k.

I think I will hold off until maybe 10-15 yrs in future when, if I still have it, it’d be ripe for perhaps a more comprehensive restoration. Paint and panel isn’t perfect. I don’t want to put $2k worth of stickers on 18 yr old paint.....

To update - to make it more original/period, I have removed the seat covers. Original fabric is saggy but so be it. Also getting proper Holden floor mats. Aftermarket ones slide around too much.

Back last holidays gave it a service. Just an oil change, and preparation for pink slip.

Previously a battery exploded dissolving paint and leaving a sticky goo around that part of engine bay. I have rectified this.
