The little X means there is no outside ambient temp sensor connected

if the little x is on your dash triple window display that means there is a communication fault between the modules

You need to get your ECC trouble codes displayed using a Tech2 or equivalent. The are a dozen ECC trouble codes that could cause the "x" to be displayed. Ambient Temperature Sensor Voltage High (DTC13) and Voltage Low (DTC14) being two of them. Did you get the HVAC from the same car that you obtained the ECC module? Did you check that the globes in the ECC module were working before you installed it in the car? Did you convert the globes to LEDs by any chance?
