Hi All, I have a mate who has a 2003 HSV Clubby with about 123,000kms. He keeps it immaculate, garaged every day and hasn't missed a beat. He's looking to sell due to family reasons and I was interested but I'm worried about the high kms...is 100k+ for an HSV too many kms? I'm worried about resale and possible future issues. any advice is most appreciated! Cheers
the best way in my opinion to calculate if a car has too many K's for its year of manufacture is by multiplying the average k's per year and comparing to how many the car has. The average Australian driver drives between 20,000kms to 30,000kms per year... i just use 20,000kms. So for a 2003 VY, i multiply 20,000kms by 7 because its a 7 year old car.. and you get 140,000kms. 123,00kms is pretty good for a VY. My VY SS has just hit the 140,000kms mark now and i havnt had one problem with it! (knock on wood).
Depends on driving style. 123,000kms of driving like a granny is no problem. On the contrary 123,000kms of flogging the guts out of it is not so good... Also resale on a Commodore? what resale lol. If you want good resale don't buy a Holden.
It depends on how it has been driven it's entire life, how it has been maintained (service history) and the price. Higher km cars are worth less. Check the number of previous owners. If you are looking to upgrade to a VY look for a car under 100000 kms with a good service record. From what I have seen advertised there are good low mileage VY examples still around. If you want a V8, the VY SS and the VZ SS are better value than an HSV. They largely do the same job and there are plenty for sale. HSVs are very nice looking cars though. Check your comprehensive insurance premium costs with an HSV compared with other commodore models you are interested in.
i paid 25k for mine and i think it was a bargain. it now has 121xxx on the clock and had 117xxx when i bought it 2 months ago and i only drive it on weekends. here are pics if you want to see http://forums.justcommodores.com.au/snap-shot/148693-new-shoot-forum-steev88s-vyii-r8.html ppl say high kms are bad but its how it has been driven as TMM said. for eg when i bought mine the trip B said 11000 kms and average of 11L of fuel usage.. as well as full service history i KNOW it has been well looked after and i am 2nd owner. it was really cute the lady that owned it took me for a drive when i was enquiring about it and she goes "its got a bit of power" gives it about 15% throttle and goes ooh havent done that in a while.. i was like lol..
I paid $30k for my 05 senator with 98,000klms on the clock last year and it has run faultless, now with 113,000klms.
I bought a VYII clubsport with 80k on it nearly two years ago. Now it's at 150k. No problems at all. Mostly highway k's. I like my HSV more than the SS's that were at a similar price.
I've got a VYII with 180,000 k's on her, bought it last year for at 165. She's never had anything wrong with her besides a leaking radiator hose. $20 later and 10 minutes of work and she's good as new...
