Hi all ,I been looking online for some time to see if some one has tried 3.9 or 4.11 diff gears for their alloytec berlina or omega 4speed auto, but I haven’t had any luck , so if anyone has first hand experience your feed back will be appreciated I have tested all my mods down the 1/4 mile and so far this is what I got.

Ozztrack tune only 16.27
+ mace 12mm spacers and k&n air filter 16 flat.
+ rear sport muffler only 15.86
Had a small tune change ,use to shif at 6000 rpm 1st 70kph 2nd 140kph now 1st 80kph 2nd 160kph @ 6600rpm but waiting on cooler whether to test down the 1/4.

I think the car can run a low 15s now but it’s just a theory base on how the car feels
With the new tune. My goal its to get into the 14s I think 4.11s will do the trick .

Haven't personally had experience with an auto v6 VE but I can tell u that 4.11's are a very short ratio and with your 4 speed auto you'll probably hate it u may even go backwards in performance would be a lot better off with 3.7 gears maybe even 3.45 and I'm picking ur diff is a single spinner so an lsd upgrade would be wise, if your looking for more power try ditching the air box for an otr and get oz track to touch up the tune to suit

Yeah I have the 3.27 LSD (ex-police) and with an Orssom OTR, spacers, Pacemaker extractors, SSV non-AFM exhaust, no tune, it wheel spins for a split second when I floor it so I guess what you'd have issues with traction and a 4.11. As vr304 suggests, I'd try a 3.45 first, then a 3.7 and see if that makes any difference.

Just throw 3.9s in it n be done. May not be heaps quicker down the strip but it'll skid it'd hook and arse dyno will add 20 horses.

Had daily commodores with 3.9s they cruise at 23-2500 in the older models with 4l60s wouldn't go under 3.7 if for butt feels.

My Caprice has 3.46 diff gears and you can sit on 130 n still pull 10 litres per hundred at like 2800 rpm. Throttle position and lean cruise does wonders.

What speed are you crossing the line at and in what gear?
In a manual you would be aiming to cross the line when your just about touch the limiter so i dont have to waste time shifting a gear for the last 50m or so. If the VE's are like the older models they would hit a wall in 3rd gear.

With 3.9s you'll be shifting into third at 135 kph @ 6600
With 4.11s will be 125 kph @ 6600
Seeing as you already have a 3.27 if 3.45 are available for zf I wouldn't bother the difference is minimal.

You'll just be changing into third crossing the line as I'm assuming you're trapping at what 140, 145 over the line?

May slow you down may be quicker. Those motors like to be over 5k. The fact it'll get to limiter quicker may help it pending how bad the torque drop is when it clicks third.

Thank you for your thoughts guys ,
Harrop senator is on the money that's why I'll go 3.9 and lsd I calculated 1st 67kph 2nd 134kph 3rd will be engaged at 134 give or take. I'm looking for a new lsd diff. For the 15.86 the speed was 143.5 kph it just had shifted to 3rd at 140 .Im going back 28/3 and if I can manage a 15.2 I'm going to go ahead with the 3.9 lsd , realistically for what I have read the diff change can net a .4 - .6 gain and that should translate hopefully to a 14.8 .

Well didn’t go according to plan last night but ended up with a pb of 15.743 not the 15.2 I want it but to be fair it was a hot night 27c compare to 16c when I ran the 15.86 I’m going back in July maybe I’ll have the 3.9s by then.

I’ve gotta ask... if you enjoy drag racing, why stick with the 6?

why not? You can enjoy drag racing with any car , what I enjoy about it is experimentig with new mods and beating my own times , I’m also on a low budget , but most importanly I love my big fat berlina
