You have the wrong cap fitted there haha

Very common issue the spout snapping off.

To disconnect the Auto trans lines follow the pipes from the radiator to about level with the front of the engine, you will see two circular plastic rings at the two connections. Push the rings back and you will expose a metal clip that you pry out with a very small screwdriver or pick. The pipe will then pull out. Once the radiator is out remove the pipes at the radiator with the same clips.

Dont lose the clips.

The new radiator should have clips on it.

Tell me about it, thankfully worst issue with the car but obviously previous owner took it somewhere dodge for the radiator work!.. cheap import one.

So it'll do til next service and it's getting done then, (if I didn't need tyres for the roady i'd have done it then).

well i went to holden and purchased a genuine radiator got it for about $486 and put it in myself , what a prick of a job , i managed to get it out and back in without removing the AC condenser . them spring clamps are a biatch to get on and off.

one more thing where the bottom hose goes onto there is a tube thats removable , costs around $40 its attactched by just pressing it onto these notched teeth and then a big circlip goes on , my question is why the hell couldnt they make the same system for the top hose spout ? my radiator was still good all that happened was the damn flange snapped off like you guys . if it had the same removable system like the bottom hose seperate tube section i wouldnt of had to replace the whole damn radiator , i could of just bought a tube section and put a new top spout tube on , BUT NOOOOO holden make it faulty like this on purpose so you gotta buy a whole new radiator .

Well mine just went the other day... conventiently just a few weeks after id dropped & replaced the coolant. Exactly the same as OP with the broken bit still inside the hose, mine at least held out until nearly 120000km. I just got the whole thing replaced & a new water pump whilst i was there (leaking slightly though figured it would go completely soon anyways)... couldnt be bothered hunting around for the cheapest part, waiting for it to arrive then doing it myself and probably breaking something else in the process, plus i needed the car; rang the closest 4 rad specialists & took it to the cheapest one (none of them were cheap lol).

Im paranoid about it now... didnt get the hose replaced (the mechanic didnt say it needed to be) & in my mind its responsible for the breakage somehow.

Dont know why you think it was the hose that caused it....?????
Its NOT the fault of the hose, its the crap plastic tank.

I see that this thread is old but was just wondering do they make a fully aluminium radiator and if yes where could I order one from? Have just had this happen to me and am looking for a fully aluminium radiator because I figured if I got another with top plastic hoses the same thing would happen again

Be wary of cheap aftermarket ones... There's been the odd story of them leaking transmission fluid into the coolant and the reverse... Expensive if that happens and you don't notice!

I ended up replacing mine with a genuine one. while the top hose problem might happen it is not likely to happen for many K's so it shouldn't be an issue, aftermarket ones might end up having a similar situation to the one the previous owner put in which was ****.
