I'm in the market for a new car, a 2008 Omega.

I want it to have less than say 40,000km and to be in good nick, and NOT an ex-rental.

How much should I be paying for one from a dealer? They seem to be between $22,000 and $25,000..... but I am willing to haggle.

What price should I aim for?

    Thanks :)

    Check Redbook!

Good place to start is Redbook. Try link below for 2007 VE Omega.

    Redbook

Figures there would indicate that you should be able to haggle or get a super trade in. 20K max would seem a reasonable figure. Warranty cost to dealer is not an issue as Holden warranty still in force.

I think you would be much better off buying an 06' Calais V, theres a few on carpoint for about $25,000. Although it is a bit more expensive than an 08 omega, it is FAR better value

There's a few 2008 models at Booran Holden, most are at $24,880, I'll aim for $21,500 I think.

They have low kilometres, some around 30,000.

Seems like a big jump in $$$ from 2007 to 2008 Omegas - was there a spec change?

+1, if you can afford it, go for a higher spec.

Only change from year to year in these cars seems to be the wheels, not size just design.

I have a 2008 and doubt it's any different from previous models.

If anything they may have even gone slightly backwards in the later models, re engine covers and little things like that.

    Cheers.

If you are going for the 08 Omega, look for an MY09 model (release March 2008). These had side and curtain airbags standard. They also had alloy wheels standard. To easily identify an MY09, look at the VIN. The MY09 had a 9 prefix to the letter 'L' in the last part of the VIN ID eg. 9Lxxxxxxxx.

NO, redbook is never a place to start. Redbook values are so far off, i wonder how they are still used as a reference by so many people (including insurance companies)

I bought my 07 Omega in July for $23k from a dealer, that included 19" chrome mags with new tyres, SV6 wing and hayman reese towing package, 38k on the odometer and in perfect cond. Being 5 months ago i reckon u could get an 08 model same as the deal i got for about the same $$, just look real hard and haggle, i talked my deal down 1k, but other dealers dropped $1k off the asking price straight up without even tryin

don't get the Omega if your going auto, the 4 speed really lets the otherwise alright car down, get the sv6 or Calai if you can.
