Sounds like a cool build, 800hp the target NA or boosted? NA would be wicked but thats some serious coin to get there. Also curious on the paddle shift, I'm assuming you're using the factory TR6060, so is the paddle shift basically an electronic shifting actuator (similar to say a S1 sequential shifter) for it or is there more to it? Why the hydro too, I understand if you plan to drift it, seems a little out of place in a circuit car though. Agree with above though, this needs pics for sure.

Only recommendation I'd make is give the guys at Shockworks a ring if you haven't already bought your MCA's, they do some amazing stuff there and can do a custom valve setup to suit exactly what you need.

Good afternoon all

I am new to this forum but I need some advice and direction with my build.

I am building my 2009 VE SS into a track day car or Touring spec car as far as Motorsport Australia goes. So, full race, stripped out with roll cage custom wiring and ECU etc.....

Work so far:

Engine: Cam, OTR and minor mods (lots more to come)
Interior: Fully stripped out, wiring stripped, all airbags, steering wheel, seats and the rest.
Wheels: 20in King Detroit (staggered) - may have to downgrade to 18in.
Brakes: AP Racing drilled and slotted 4 pot
Body: Rain light, hood vents and pins

Planned work:

Engine: Racing heads, new manifold, underdrive, rockers and haven't decided further (800hp target).
Interior: Motec dash, ECU and loom, full national spec type 3 roll cage, Racetech seats, OMP steeringwheel with paddle shift and control buttons, safety nets and the rest of all the fun stuff..
Wheels: 18in required for Motorsport Aus regs..
Brakes: Hydro handbrake
Body: Race livery, possibly the Penrite Anzac Day tribute used in the V8 Supercars E-Series? And a V8 Supercars rear wing.
Exhaust: Side exit 3in straight through
Suspension: MCA Race Reds

I need to remove the aircon as well and put in a little custom demister only.

Any tips, hints or comments welcome. The car is mostly to be used for track days.

Many thanks.
Don't forget a torque converter....

If you look on youtube Richard Holdener has several LS based builds that he dyno tested. I think I saw one that was 7l that was making 700hp N/A.

Looks mint, VE is the heaviest car ever made by holden, it has the best "zeta" chassis, but is heavy. 800hp NA is gonna cost **** tonnes, unless you mean brake engine HP.
Look forward to keeping up with your build.

Realistically, anything over 500HP will do me just fine.

800hp at the tyres N/A would not be ideal for a track car because the cam to get there on 427ci would be very aggressive and you would loose a fair bit of torque under 6k rpm. That would be around 900hp flywheel rpm would be over 8k easy finding a gearbox to suit would be very costly.

So you would have to settle for less power or go more cubes. I forget what the biggest LS style engine can go but I think it's 480ci maybe 500ci.

480ci with the right cam could come close to the power goal but will require a custom block which is not cheap in alloy. Dart, RHS and World all have one available. Then to feed 480ci you'll likely want some Frankenstein heads well their whole top end kit. Or some Higgins heads.

LS3 with a cam and good heads should see that easy. I saw this post after posting my last one sorry.
