VE Omega Series 2, Dual Fuel.
Past couple of months my car has been shuddering intermittently but is getting worse and worse. The LPG gauge in my car also will randomly switch to petrol because its 'empty', but really there is a half-full tank of gas. For a week now there's also been a fast clicking noise coming from the engine bay. I have visited holden 3 times in past couple of months, being told there is nothing wrong with it other than maybe its just cold-i call bullsh*t because my car is doing this regardless of temperature/time of day, long drive/short drive, idling/in any gear and actually noticed it on sunday when driving on a brand new road too.
Just this afternoon i dropped into a LPG specialist to see if they could have a quick look. He couldn't tell me what's wrong because the car miraculously behaved for him! He did say though that the clicking sound is totally normal, apparently it's just the LPG injectors, although I'm not entirely convinced as this noise only started a week ago.
Tonight when driving, I noticed my car was lagging with gear changes and started jerking. The shuddering got really bad and when driving it was like I was in a truck. Not long after this the check engine light came on for the first time ever. I pulled over and turned the car off and turned it back on after a couple of minutes. The warning light had gone but shudder was still there, I kept driving because TAFE was like 2mins away.
When I left (3hrs later) the car was still shuddering so I thought I'd give petrol another go. I actually got home no dramas which is weird coz the shuddering was previously happening on petrol too.
I will be calling holden again tomorrow, but will pop into an impco specialist near home to see if maybe they can have a quick look. I'm hoping now that a fault code might be logged in the system. Ultimately though I will end up back at holden as I still have warranty till September this year. I don't see why I need to pay for something to be fixed when its covered by warranty. Plus being a single mum, I can't afford to do it any other way.

Sorry for the long ass story! Has anyone else had similar dramas ?! HELP lol it's driving me bananas :(

Had similar the relay for the LPG solinoid had to be replaced then no issues. Not sure why but it made the car shudder on petrol strange. 08 berlina factory gas with 90000kms when it buggered up.

Holden dealer fixed it

If you have had any of the above problems; I suggest you get the cables to the gas injection system checked.

These cables are the wires running to the LPG system, sitting on top of your engine.

You may find the tape around the wires has become hard & brittle. The resulting tension may be causing poor electrical connections.

Once the tape is removed and the cables loosened up, the problems with misfiring (“Check Engine” warning light; rough running; and changing from LPG to petrol) maybe permanently resolved.

I have been having intermittent problems with my 2010 VE Series II Dual Fuel for over 12 months. As everyone advises, I took my car to my local Impco recommended repairer.

Although the car had only done 40,000 km, the mechanic convinced me to change 2 of the injectors. As he inadvertently moved the cables when fitting the injectors, this fixed the problem for a while.

When the misfiring returned, the Impco “expert” recommended I changed the remaining 4 injectors. Again, moving the cables fixed the problem for a few weeks.

Finally in his frustration, the local mechanic referred me to the Impco State Manager. The Manager attached his laptop and noticed error messages whenever he touch the injector wiring.

Why the local Impco trained mechanic couldn’t have done this simple troubleshooting himself and saved me over $1000, is beyond me!

However, I share my story in the hope of sparing someone else the same time and expense.

Hopefully my local mechanic will read this too and learn to always look for the easy and low cost things first.

Happy & economical V6 LPG motoring.

Hi mate so in the end if you just changed the cables only would it have been fine. Coz mine is having a similar issue.

Consult an Auto Gas Specialist to ensure that you don't finish up with a 'ticking time-bomb'.

From reading the above you have to conclude it was only the wiring, as the laptop picked up a problem with the injector wiring. But i ask is it a problem with the Holden injector wiring itself... or wiring associated with the LPG installation Best the Origional Poster answer this. Perhaps send him a PM to clarify ?

Just to clarify: In my case there was nothing technically wrong with the gas injectors or the wiring.

The problem was caused by hardened installation tape, around the injector cables, that caused cable tension and an intermittent poor electrical connection.

All I did to fix my problem was to remove all the hardened installation tape from the wiring running to the gas injectors; loosen the harnessing; and carefully tape everything up again with new tape.

For someone very average ability, this would be a 45 minute job and cost less than $4.

The Impco State Manager told me the problem was the original Impco installation tape was from Italy and probably not suitable for Australian conditions.

Now my dual fuel VE is running like a dream and never misses a beat. Touch wood!

Take care
Bob

Hi asimrc. I hope you got my email.

My Avatar is now a picture of the problem cables, circled in yellow.

I hope this helps you and anyone else with the same problem.

Cheers
Bob
