2012 VE2 Commodore SSV Z series
Hi everyone, just wonder if anyone here know any common issues/problems relate to 2012 Holden Commodore SSV Z series 6-speead Auto (with AFM technology). Because Im planning to purchase a second hand one with 90000kms on the odometer from its first owner in Queensland. Any advice/ recommendation would be much appreciated. Thanks.

The SSV Z series were the last of the VE's, MY12.5.
Any problems would have been sorted by then.

I heard someone said it may have some lifter problems because of AFM system, is that true and also oil consumption?

The L77's were pretty well sorted by that stage.

Series 1 had L76's and L98's, series 2 were all L77's.
L77's got revised AFM lifters and a few other differences.

Ive got one with 70k on it and here are the issues ive had so far:

1 dead fuel pump due to dodgy fuel pump wiring loom, being replaced soon - expensive as the tank has to come out.

Touch screen goes black for a while in hot weather.

Reverse camera screen black or flickering, only when its hot outside.

Navigation doesn't even work, people say the SD card has unplugged but you need to take some of the dash out to fix it.

Scroll wheel on steering wheel sometimes doesn't work, only seems to be in hot weather.

Factory tint already bubbling on rear window.

That's about it really, can't remember anything else until I modified it lol then the issues came but that was tune and exhaust related.

The AFM is great imo, I get 14L around town and 10L on the highway. Does drone a little with an exhaust but you won't notice it otherwise.

The auto is kinda sluggish and slow to change but does the job. The trip tonic is a lot of fun and I use it most of the time, really makes it more alive.

I love mine though, so nice to drive and sounds means as hell.

I would recommend one if you like it after you've driven it, just check service history or better yet get it inspected. get RAA and you're golden if it breaks down, $100 a year for unlimited tows is pretty good.

VE SSV Z Series M6
I've had my SSV Z for one year this month.

Bought it with 59xxx kms and now has 75xxx.

Luckily (touch wood) I haven't had any of the problems that @JoshlikesCalais has had, or any other problems for that matter.

Mine is L77 M6. I thought auto cars came with L76 with AFM until VF1.

There are threads about AFM lifter issues. How far those issues exist through build time frames I'm not sure.

Had it in for its second service today since I bought it. It was the first service at my usual mechanic (had the first service done at Holden). He was impressed with it, particularly mechanically....."immaculate" was his description.

Great car.....love driving it.

Make sure you give it a good going over and check service history.

Yeah, I still have an MY12 ute, its done 88000k's, averaged 12.2l/100.
Problems?
Indicator stalk was replaced in the first week due to a cruise control problem.
The IQ died in the last month of warranty.
Plastic facia on the RHS of the drivers seat base broke.
Drivers door lock actuator went intermittent and was replaced.
The battery died after 6 years...

Also have an MY12.5 Maloo, with 67000k's.
Problems?
It keeps losing my licence...
