2013 VE SV6 Z series
Hi All,

First post here. I've got a 3 month old SV6 and brakes are very poor. The travel is too long before they begin to work. It's been like that since new. It's had the 3,000k inspection and the dealer has said it's normal VE brakes. My last car was a VY SS so it's hard to compare.

The discs are not warped or glazed.

Anyone else with a VE V6 have this issue.?

If its normal then I'm thinking of getting bigger rotors like the SS has.

you can change to the bigger rotors off the ss nice and easy, you just have to get the caliper carriers off the ss as well to position the caliper for the larger rotor (wont fit otherwise) 1800kg of car is alot to stop, if you do change discs get some dba t2/t3 from gsl rallysport (sponsoer-good prices etc) even the v8 brakes are average (most reports) maybe get an independant to check the brakes and see what they say

Well I bought a new VE SV6 last year and the brakes were very good. Very grippy and certainly no long pedal travel.

All new VEs have long pedal travel do they? "...the dealer has said it's normal VE brakes....." What utter nonsense from this expert mechanic at the dealership. In that case the brakes on my car (with only 5000 kms since new) should be the same as yours - and they certainly are not.

I think you are an experienced enough owner and driver to know when there is something amiss with the brakes. Go to another dealer and report the problem. If you get the same stupid reply I would go to a reputable independent brake specialist and get their opinion.

If your brakes are poor and the pedal travel is long on your new car you definitely and quite obviously have a problem in the brake system that needs to be identified and rectified.

VE brakes feel spongy and arent confidence inspiring from factory. I made the same complaint to the dealer last year on the 3000K service on my SS and got the same answer. They will be working as designed and intended, they just feel like rubbish. My suggestion to you before you go buying new discs and calipers etc is to just get onto GSL rallysport and fit a set of QFM HPX pads to you standard Sv6 brakes as the pad change will make a significant difference to the pedal feel. Your looking at under $200 delivered for the full set all round I reckon.

What i did to my SS was fit Hawk HPS pads and braided lines all round which improved my pedal feel and braking significantly. Pads were expensive though at $420 for the 4 wheels which is why its worth going the QFM's as i hear they are excellent and everyone that uses them loves them.

If i had the coin though, I would have just spent 5 grand on a harrop 4 piston monoblock VE kit and not even dicked around with any factory size stuff.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Tell them to demonstrate the pedal feel to you in another VE to confirm "they are all like that"
