So I got my VF SV6 back from the blokes at Goat Performance Products late last month.

Produces 379RWHP and 640 NM of Torque running 9 psi with a custom 3" exhaust. Keep in mind this car is completely stock aside from the Twin Turbo, this is also a safe tune to protect the longevity of the engine.

The car feels and runs great, fuel economy... is actually not that bad, still cruises very well on the highway averaging 7.5L per 100Km, around town is a bit of a problem, I don't have a reliable readout for town driving but I expect it would be between 12-14L per 100Kmm, should you turn off traction control, you should be ready to burn rubber as the wheels will just spin under heavy acceleration.

On the downside some of the turbo components and the new exhaust coming out of the engine bay are a bit close to the ground, so much so that the car would be impossible to drive if it was lowered, due to it being closer to the ground, there are some speed humps that I literally cannot go over or will scrape against the rock guard and exhaust, I am actually looking into some options to raise the car up a little bit to avoid scraping in the future.

Very nice! I was thinking about the same but too much work for me haha. The LS3 is really showing its age with no VVT. I test drove the SV6 and SSV Redline and honestly prefer everything about the SV6 except the mid-high RPM power. I honestly feel like there was nothing between them below 2000rpm because of all the tech in the SV6. Turbo SV6 would be awesome!

Did you plan to do this right from the get-go before you even bought the car?

Honestly? No. I was and probably still am a novice when it comes to cars, if I had my time again, probably would have spent the extra coin on a SSV.

I bought the car while I was still on my Green P's, I was just looking around at the time, and I spotted it in the show room, fell in love with it, I bought it off the floor the next day. Ever since I got it, I have been looking at ways to make the car more unique, to make it represent my personality, after all, the cars we drive are really just an extension of ourselves when we drive them.

    You've gotta be kidding.

I had a sv6 loan car while my Redline was in for servicing and it was chalk and cheese.

LS3 while no VVT is definitely still a good engine. Even the gen 5 LT series gm engines are pushrod and still pushing great numbers and reliability.

Would be a nice upgrade to the SV6.
Did they give you a discount for advertising for them?

I don't understand why they would have shown rear wheel HP (horsepower) for the power reading and N.M (newton metre) for the torque reading. That seems an unnecesary and possibly confusing mix of measurement types. For example, the power rating of 379 rwHP is around 283 rwkw, still impressive, but not if you were interpreting the 379 as being rwkw.

Can't say I know much about these newer V6s but those numbers look promising, does it feel like it's running as much as it says?

They took me out for a run in their sv6 TT ute, and their ve v8 TT, mine pulls harder than the ute did, but not quite as much as their v8, but it is damn close to the v8, I dare say with some more mods it'd be quick off the line, just off the top of my head, if I added cams and a 3.7 diff. it'd be damn quick. I just need to get some boost management done as it is surging a bit on low boost.

I have no idea either mate, when i was talking to them before it was all in RWKW, then afterwards they started talking in RWHP. Honestly it's pretty confusing, but they are kinda new so still working a few things out i guess.

Just as a side note, you can drop-in VVT to any GenIV V8 and make a massive difference to torque spread, peak HP, fuel consumption and thermal efficiency.
I did that along with some other new fangled GenV tweaks, run a 2016 Stingray tune modified for PFI.

    Cars

What’s the reason for the components and exhaust being so low?

I’ve owned a few bottom mounted twin turbo cars with one being a VE SSV and I’ve never had any clearance problems and my cars are always lowered.

I’ve never owned a V6 but I would have thought there’d be more room available underneath than the V8’s.

Having to raise a car above stock would be a real deal breaker for me.

Are the turbos bottom mounted and what components are you talking about that are causing a problem?

Have you got any photos of the undercarriage?

Does the SV6 come with a LSD, or I assume you have fitted one?

I've seen their listings and only thing I was a bit wear about is what are the brands on the turbos? Are they pretty china spec? If so are they atleast balanced locally? Apart from that and the height issues the kits seem quite impressive. A couple of kinugawa td05 20g's would go quite well on these and have garret esque reliability or some cheapy turbonetics.

The turbos are bottom mounted, by components I really just mean the aftermarket stone guard they fitted, which is really just a big aluminum sheet, but there is also a bit of scraping on the exhaust where it connects coming out from the engine bay into the exhaust proper, I don't know how to explain it really, I'll see if I can get some photos of it today, I should have grabbed some yesterday when I got it serviced.

I think it's a combination of more front end weight and things protruding a touch lower than stock.

So I guess it could be possible to just get some stiffer front springs and the problem may go away.

They are the GT28/71 Proboost turbo's with the 64 exhaust housing.

Sv6 auto does not come standard with an LSD diff, but it is something I am looking to get installed, I just cannot make my mind up, if I want a higher gear ratio or not.

You can't do much to it when you're stuck only being able to advance and retard the intake and exhaust together, rather than independently of each other. You can't change the lobe separation.

I am genuinely in need of a wagon for the growing family and was genuinely interested in buying an SSV Redline. I'm coming from a modded BMW 335i (twin turbo direct injected inline 6). It's butter smooth from idle to 7000rpm. It pulls super hard from 1500rpm and feels really smooth while doing so. It's putting down around 300rwkw and 650nm with upgraded turbos. It gets around 9L/100 with mixed daily driving. I knew going to the Commodore will lose a lot of fuel consumption and I was OK to sacrifice that as long as everything else is good. Unfortunately, it just seems to have nothing below 2000rpm and if you get it above 5000rpm, it really lets you know it doesn't like it. It sounds harsh and thrashy. I feel that it's really showing its age. That and the driver's seat not being able to go anywhere near as low as pretty much every other even remotely sporty car was a deal breaker for me. I'll just need to keep saving for a used 535i wagon :-(
