Hi guys,

I am getting few mechanical issue fixed as well, I have 253 engine . It has some sort of cam in it, extractors etc

Anyway, this is the carby that came on it, can anyone tell me what it is? Is this a good carby for 253? any carby shop in Melbourne that's any good?

it says made in USA on the side.

I am thinking of taking it off an giving it to someone to do a quick freshen up.

I am not spending big bucks on the build so anything that can be fixed I ll rather keep.

pheck... VERY wrong carb for the 2fiddy 3 !!
Old Chev SBC side entry Quadrajet with small
primary needles and the old fuel bowl design.
Choke..??? cannot tell which style from those pics.

A quadrajet, the right one in good nick is a great choice
for your engine but not that one.

GMH fitted (up to date) ones on blue 253s... great combo that
made the 253 get up and honk.

Depends where you are in Melbourne, talk to Steve at
SMC Autos in Bayswater (used by lots of racers+ has a dyno)
or MLP Carbs in Reservoir

Hey Smitthy, thanks a lot man! That's why I love this forum, great people willing to help.

Great advise, piss it off and get the one that will do the job.

The car starts but it doesn't run hold the idle.. it was old and dirty too

Who knows what they were thinking when it was put on.

What would this carby be worth used? I will sell it and put the money towards the Quadrajet.

Too many
I'd whack it on Gumtree/facebook for $150 and take anything over $100. I've sold 3 quaddies over the past 6 weeks between $80-120 depending on how complete they were (but unknown condition).

Hi Gozza1, Smitty is spot on, I fitted a Quady and manifold from a blue 253 on my LX Torana back in the day, had it set up on the dyno, was lean when the secondary’s opened changed the metering rods to suit, really livened it up. Geez wish I still had it now

Thanks mate, can I still use the existing manifold with a quadrajet?
