me and my friend are having an argument about putting 253's into VK's, or any other older engine into a newer car for that matter.

I've always believed that it was illegal to fit an older engine to a newer car because of emissions etc, he thinks you could put a 253 into a VK, or any older engines into newer cars no probs.

If anyone could tell me what the laws are on this in different states (especially SA and QLD) that would be sweet
thanks!

thats what im saying but hes saying the complete opposite.

he also thinks " his dad put a 351 from a 1975 falcon into a 1990 land cruiser and its still registered today "
... that wouldnt have a chance of passing emissions in a 1990 car..

The Landcruiser conversion is quite a common one
The main way of doing it is running the vehicle on straight gas
This can be done with any car but Petrol tanks have to be removed for engineers

Pajero LWB Wagon, Power/economy what's that ???
An older engine is OK if it meets or betters the emission levels of the original.
You can't be sure that an older motor will pass even if it has the cars original emission gear connected. Most older cars with their original stock motors would fail anyway.
Too much messing around for most people so they either run it on gas only, as stated previously, or install a newer motor.
A Blue 253 should pass the emission test for use in a VK but a red 253 generally will not.
But.........why would you want to put a 253 in a VK?
