VE Berlina wagon 3.0l S2 auto
Hi all,
long time reader first post.
So my ve S2 Berlina wgns engine has done a bottom end and needs replacing. I'm leaning towards a crate motor from over east and was wondering what sort of cost would be involved to have it installed and if anyone can recommend someone in Perth to do it? I've been quoted around 6k to get mine rebuilt with 20000km warranty or 4k for a second hand one installed but no warranty. Any advice please. The back up astra with 3 kids is not ideal.
thanks.

Holmart do the crates for 4.5k - https://www.holmart.com.au/holden-commodore-lfw-3.0l-v6-ve-vf-motor-crate-lon

4k for a second hand one and not even a 3 month warranty? That's pretty exorbitant. Dunno if it's the WA tax, but looking at the eBay wrecker price guide, you should be able to pick one up from an east coast wrecker for about $1500.

Know it might be a dumb question, but have you asked Holden about what they'd charge for one? If they have any left that is.

To remove it is approx 4 > 5 hours x 2 people,
To re-fit a repalcement is again approx 5 > 6 hours x 2 people,
the questions you need to ask,
Am i going to keep the car ?
How long am I going the keep the car ?
If its only a couple of years,
source a second hand one.
4+ years, source new one,
But when you go to sell it, the Car still can only be sold with the current amout of K/M's on it, despite you have put a replacement motor in it, and not be andvantage for extra $'s.

In a nut shell, see if there is a GOOD S/Hand LFW available, surely there is a wrecker in WA that could have one

If your going to get it done,
as a guesstimate, S/Hand Motor + 2 ppl @ 12 hours each to R&R the motor = approx $3,500 + materials, [Oil, Filter, Coollant, Various Hoses]

Edit: If you do get a S/Hand Motor, User your Original/Existing Sensors.

thanks mate. yeah WA tax I reckon.
It was Holmart I was looking at, didn't think of Holden so might be worth a call I guess.
Not too keen on second hand.
cheers.

Thanks mate.
Leaning towards a crate motor and holding onto it for at least a few years.
So it's the labour I was more interested in, so thanks for your advice.
cheers

Eh, as long as it's maintained you shouldn't need a crate motor for the future once it's replaced. Did you find out why this one has issues?
