- VS Ecotec v6 (Mk 2) 1996 Auto
Hi - I have an issue with carbonised spark plugs - just inherited an ecotec V6 which hadnt been looked after - I've changed the oil and the previous oil looked like it had been in there for ages.....It has 220K on the clock. Have just changed the spark plaugs after noting that the 3 on the passenger side bank were fouling - the new plugs are also still fouling - quite noticeably. However very little blue smoke (except under heavy acceleration) and the oil level is not noticeably dropping (I'm running high quality 20-40). The carbon on the 3 plugs is light and dusty and is affecting all 3 cylinders on the passenger side. The plugs on the drivers side are spotless. The leads must be low-impedance types, they are all reading at consistent values. Having this problem surely indicates that the coil-pack is OK. I was thinking is this likely to be the valve stem oilseals? I understand there is one of these for each each valve? Why would all 3 go at once only on this side if thats the case? I will have a go at replacing these myself once I buy a Gregorys manual. Could this problem actually be something else? Any advice from you's guys appreciated....!
