That's because the Ford V8 is a sad.

Really seem to lack bottom end torque. Whether thats due to the gearing in the gearbox or diff or the motor I don't know.

Could have allot to do with the gearing. Without seeing the numbers I can't really say.

Who knows. Holdens have different gear ratio's between V6, V6-S and V8. So not a stretch to think ford do a similar thing.

Power is the result of torque multiplied by speed or rpm. If 2 cars have 300 kw at 6000 rpm but one has more power at 5000 or 4000 rpm then that is the one with more torque. That is why boosted engines are faster, on a dyno graph you have more area under the graph, even if the peak power is the same.

"torque is an engines ability to overcome resistance."
Take volts and amps, with out any amps all the volts in the world are only gonna tickle.
A few cars back i had a little turbo diesel, only had 82kw but it had a boot load of torque, sure made those 82kw feel pretty dam good, it used to get the jump on v6 commodores off the line, allbiet only for a few seconds. lol
