VS 304 is a 2 wire O2 sensor, it's wired to the PCM. I would be checking the main earth points to ensure they are all clean and making good contact and look for any damaged wiring.

Check here for wiring diagram. pcmhacking.net - View topic - VS V8 Wiring Diagram

The main earth points your looking for would be the ignition module earth stud and front engine cover L/H side side of water pump.

Does the VS have an earth on the rear of the LH head?

It may be a dud sensor, it happens.

The V6 models certainly do. Not sure about the 8's though. Didn't think so.

When the injected 308 was in the VC it had an earth bolted to back of the LH head. Could have been the guy that did the wiring, but it looked factory.

so I take it the black wire can be earthed anywhere?..
I would have thought holdens would have just earthed it to the headers to save wire. couple meters of wire per car goes a long way..
