I have the distributor out of the vehicle and needed to know how to test the hall effect sensor?

I have a Haynes Manual here and says you connect a 1500ohm resistor, ammeter and voltmeter but it doesn't actually say where to...

I don't know what wires to connect to and where to connect the resistor?

Now....This is for a VT 304 ci Distributor, but I would say the test procedure would be the same.
Give it a go any way.

No problem....hope it helps. I find the Gregory's better than the Haynes manual.

the connector is different... but I'll have a look at the wiring diagram to see what wiring is what.... the Testing procedure write-up in that manual is the same as the Haynes manual... but I'm glad the diagrams are there

Hmmmm...thought they might be.
The wires should be the same, just arranged differently on the connector.

VT has the cam sensor in the distributor. The power and earth wires are the same it's just that there's an extra signal wire with the VT. - and + should be obvious with the 0 the signal wire that connects between the Voltmeter and the 1.5k Ohm resistor for the test.

Now my test resulted in the volts constant at 12v but when I retried the test it was 4v (both as I was spinning the shaft) but isn't its supposed to be on then off as I turn the shaft???
