I have a hq with a vp commodore 304 engine in it and i have just hooked up the factory power steering pump up to it and noticed that the belt i have (11A1105)which only runs from crank to pump pulley just touches the edge of the water pump pulley on its way past it . The water pump pulley which is factory commodore has provision for 2 belts but im only using the inner one in this configuration.
My question is there a setup on some of these cars that use this spare one on the water
pump pulley to go from crank around the water pump pulley to the power steering pulley?
All the ones Ive seen use the way I have done however there is another longer belt (11A1245) listed as a possible part for it.

I believe late vs 304 ran both belts on the w/pump (1 to alt, 1 to p/steer)
But as you say, measure and purchase the longer v-belt to suit.

ok looks like i need to buy a longer belt and use the spare pulley on the water pump but how strange is it how every picture I can find on the net shows the 304 with a single pulley water pump and the straight arrangement using only the crank and power steering type belt.
I actually bought the whole engine/gearbox from a working car and it had a 2 belt water pump (with no belts fitted) and when I bought all the bits , the guy selling it gave me a spare water pump pulley and it has the 2 setup too
Next question is is there a bracket for the air conditioning compressor sitting on the same studs behind the power steering bracket that spaces the pump a little more forward as the alignment when the power steering bracket is fitted looks like it is slightly out?

Yes, there is a bracket for power steering tensioner, as shown in your picture there.

Thanks.... answers a lot of my questions....did gm run the wiring over the top of the pump reservoir or have you changed it?

It was cable tied to the upper radiator hose. It is a stupid place to run a wiring loom if you ask me.

and wiring over the top of the pump reservoir. I bought it in 98 so expect it is as per factory.

Adjuster for twin pulley setups is on a massive/heavy/thick bracket that probably mounts p/steer pump more forward to line up with other groove.

Can't remember if single pulley setups if p/steer pump bolts directly to head like vb-k early girls but they take same pulley just mount p/steer to different side heads.
