304 with black valve covers

Hi guys,

I have just bought a 304 engine number VU5879XX and it has black valve covers (I thought all were silver and doesnt look to have been "repainted" can anyone shed some light on what it is out of please?

VU should be a stock 165kw motor. Could have come out of most 2nd gen commo's
