Im bored and was thinking about the nice low compression ratio of a stock holden 308 and how it would be ideal for boost. Im 999% sure im not the only person to ponder this. Ive seen plenty of efi turbo motors and ive done plenty of research on them in the past but whats involved with a carby turbo? is there a reason why there are relatively uncommon? would a cheap set up be and what would a no expenses spared set up be? im bored so thought id find out about this!

The reason why EFI turbo set ups are so common is that they are a lot more tuneable and you can get fantastic drivability out of them. You will find that most guys that do a carby blow through set up, generally end up going to EFI for those exact reasons. At the end of the day, a carby is and always will be a controlled fuel leak and they have there limitations IMO.

Not saying that carbies are **** by any means, but they have there place as does EFI, and on a turbo set up EFI is the go.

Agreed with BV6.

But, you don't have to use the factory EFI ;).
There is an abundance of aftermarket EFI setups you could use, which while the might seem expensive, isn't anywhere near as troublesome as converting to the factory EFI. IMO anyway.

so what about carby supercharger set ups or is a carby motor better kept to the "add cubes" recipe =p

Nahh superchargers work, because you pull the fuel through the carby the same way a motor does anyway. Turbo's push the air through which confuses the crap out the senile old carb.

ah right, that makes sense. i temporally forgot about 6/71s haha. FI set ups are pretty pricey if done properly though arent they?

haha that picture looks so dodgy! see ive been thinking about compression ratios for the 308 which is why ive been pondering FI set ups as the standard compression ratio is good for it but needs bumping up for a NA set up. i think ill stay NA as itll be easier and cheaper to set up. i know using flat top pistons bump the CR thanks to my over thread, are the other ways of increasing CR to do with using different head gaskets and head skimming? or is that for reducing CR? im thinking its search time..
