Hi all, I have a 308 engine and wanting to find out what it may have originally came out of. It has a cast date of 19J5 and 308 on side, the engine no. is VA 562022. I'm struggling to work it out as the cast date doesn't seem to match up with the first letters of the Engine no. ie VA I thought was a VK 304. Thanks in advance

More cars than I've got space to park!
Going by the numbers provided it's a standard output, small valve, auto trans (Aussie bolt pattern), 304ci V8 (option code LV2) from a VK Commodore, cast on Thursday the 19th of September 1985 (toward the end of the VK model run).

P.S. Just noticed that was your first post... Welcome aboard!

Thanks Bigfella237,
I thought maybe this was the case but was confused why it has 308 instead of 5.0 casted on side as I thought the 304 had.

the 5.0L cast on blocks are from VN to VR series.
The VK and VL 304 will have 308 cast on the blocks.
