what is a good wattage(170 or higher) for a set of 2 4" front mounted speakers in a vp

First off, the 170Watts you quoted is PMPO or Max power. typically, 4" speakers handle no more then 40Wrms. rms = All day running power ;) (root means square)

Secondly, becuase they are roughly all the same wattage, use your ears to determine what works best.

Thirdly do not but a set of speakers because they are 10 watts more then another set. You need to double your power handling to make a 3dB increase in sound and 3dB is only a just notable difference.
