So I recently did a gearbox change in my vx calias 5.7 and when Ive turned accessories on I heard a shorting out sound, all the fuses were fine so I didn't think anything of it. So I went to take the car for a drive and when I started the car t the check engine light came on and I noticed I only had 2nd and 3rd gear and when it's in drive the revs drop down to idle. I also noticed that sometimes when I just have accessories on the gearbox made a fast clicking sound. I thought it might have been the shift solenoids so I switched them both and still same problem. I had to rewire the netural safety switch as during the change the clip broke but other than that I'm stuck and can't figure this thing out. I've tried to read the fault but even though the engine light is up I cant find it. Also during the gearbox change i had a mafless tune thrown on, could this have something to do with it?

Suggest you get your car scanned to see what error codes have been set. Alternatively, the following item from 4L60e common problems might be a help. Since you said that you have already replaced the shift solenoids, it points to a wiring problem (or a faulty replacement solenoid):

11. No 1st or 4th available; trans shifts 2nd to 3rd by itself in D or OD : ShiftA solenoid failed. Easy fix in the pan. Or a wiring problem from PCM to trans.. or PCM.

I was told that the main plug on the gearbox is difficult so I might try fiddling with that or maybe a new gearbox loom? As well as getting it scanned. Thank you

If that plug became loose car would act like described.

Is this what you are experiencing?

"What is "limp-home mode" ? This is a fault mode in which the transmission either loses electrical power or the PCM deactivates all of the electronics. The transmission will default to max line pressure. The driver will have Reverse and 3rd, with manual 2nd available by putting the gearshift in 2 or 1 (doesn't matter). 1st, 4th, and TCC lockup will not be available. It will not hurt the car to drive it like this for short periods, but use manual 2nd to get the car moving, and be aware that the trans will generate more heat than normal while operating in limp-home mode due to increased torque converter slippage during 2nd gear starts and no lockup in 3rd gear."

So I went to an auto transmission specialist and had it looked at it threw 4 codes including tps low volt, reverse inhibitor, fuel pump circuit hold, and one other, I think it may have been the MAF sensor due to mafless, the shop also said it was the mafless tune that caused the gearbox to fall into limp mode.

So I had a standard tune thrown back on and I'm still having issues, I'm wondering if it's the loom, possibly shorted out wires? The shop said they would take a look when I remove the tune so I've had it removed but the workshop owner isn't back for 4 weeks, such a pain.

Any other ideas guys, this is so annoying

Some more information which may match your symptoms - from 4L60e Common Problems:

Hey fellas , I'm having the same issue - will shift manually from 2-3 . No 1st or over drive 4th . Motor 304 VT 4l60e box converted into d21 ute .Vats removed 195kw tune . With Maf sensor still in

Check the same items as listed earlier in the thread. Also pull the plug out of the transmission and check for trans fluid inside the fitting.
