Bloke i used to use charges around 1500 for a full rebuild on a 4l60e. That doesn't include remove and install or converter rebuild.
1500’s very cheap. Can patch them up cheap but to use decent parts it ends up costing a fair bit more. I spent just under 1k on parts alone for mine but I didn’t want it to give up on me lol

There’s a lot of time/labour in doing them properly. Apparently blueprinting all Clearances and balancing is what really makes them last.

Geebz , now i know why the bloke sold it to me, cost an arm and a leg.
I didnt relise converters could be rebuilt, thought they were basicaly sealed.

So a sprag hey, well i probably should upgrade and replace the usual extras.
I have 10 kids so cant go exessive, i use the ss crewman for towing a car trailer with the kids bikes and the occasional project and skid, prefer it to be smooth for long drives any suggestions on what i should upgrade or replace?

He is fairly cheap when it comes to rebuilds. He does normally use upgrade parts too. He seems to get parts at an extremely good price, not sure how he does it? I think he must be quick at what he does too because I had a AW4 rebuilt for under 1800 including recoing the convertor. Where as i was quoted over 2k just for the box at other places. Removal and installation is another 300 thereabouts. He is known as being the best in the north of the state, which is why you wait well over three months to even get your car booked in. That's when he is taking on work, which at the moment you can't get in.
Edit, i have an idea the parts alone for my old box were close to 1000 bucks.

Yeah there are at least two places in Melb who reco convertors. I had a place build me a 3000 stally. I could have went HD stally but it was going to be overkill for my use.

That’s one of the vids I used to learn how to do it. Asked a couple of blokes that do transmission repair and they said unless there’s obvious wear you don’t need to replace them.

Having said that, if I planned to keep one long term I’d probably machine my own tool to fit/resize those seals.

Link with a few pics from my rebuild:

Hey , so i been to broke to do any work to the vz yet, but i found a vr v8 auto not far from me goin for $150, taken out for a manual conversion, just wondering if the vr box will work enough for me to drive about well i do a slow build on the 4l65e?

Im a bit unsure and way to tired from stress to remember correctly but did they add an extra bolt to the bell housing and an extra input shaft sensor for vz as well as changing a plug or something along the lines?
