Sorry if this has been covered before just need a bit of advice, ive got a vt ss series 1 that has tremendous sentimental value to me and I'll probably never get rid of it. So im at a cross road and i dont know whether I should keep it a 5 litre ( either revamp the motor ive got or buy a built one) orrrrr drop an ls motor in. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Keep it a 5-0. LS are a dime a dozen and don't sound anywhere near as good.
Rebuild it into a 355 for extra noise.

Dropping an LS motor in will cost you more, a lot of extra stuff will be needed to do the job.

^^ Yep, and why, and what sort of power are you after.
This is my seat of the pants evaluation ….the 5.0 has more useable torque in normal driving than a LS. If you like to rev it out go the LS. The sound of a 5.0 is better than a LS. Fuel consumption about the same. Rear main seals are the weak point for a 5.0.
5.0 is rebuild, plug and play. LS will be stuff around getting it to work, I'm sure that many have done it, and there are kits, but......
You SS came with the 5.0 which may be a plus down the track, for your sentimentality and a collector viewpoint.
Keep it as is.

Another vote from me for retaining the 5 litre.

My VE is nice to drive and certainly has more power than my old VS, but it doesn't have the same low down feel, fun factor and sounds that the 5 litre had.

It would be cheaper to by a VT with factory LS than to swap yours. My vote is to keep the 5.0 as well.

Forgot to add in previous post.. The 5.0 has Bathurst 1000 bragging rights. the LS doesn't.
