Hi all,

Tried searching, but does not look like it has come up previously.

What is involved in doing an engine upgrade in a 304 VR Statesman to a 350 (5.7 Litre).

Some questions that I am thinking, will the existing auto in the 304 bolt up to the 350? Computer/Wiring will need to be changed. Exhaust needs to be changed as well as radiator.

Anything else that I need to be aware of?

Thanks

Jamie

You mean 355 stroker (as found in hsv) as against gen 3 right?

my moneys on an LS1.
Plenty needs to be changed to go in. Engine mounts, exhaust, relocation of starter motor, wiring, things need to be shifted, trans, trans mounts, list goes on with things ive forgotten and the little things you dont think about

i think it was about 5 or 6g's for all the gear needed to get it in, not including the engine and trans, and doing all the work yourself

Yes was talking about the new 5.7litre and not a stroked engine.

Based on what is said, stroking may be a better option....

Wasn't sure there was a lot to change....Appears i was wrong....

Ah, ok. I was thinking, nothing has to change for a stroker.

Yes it is expensive, but is that what you want?
Have you considered forced induction?

get a 5.7 stroker kit for your 304. Much cheaper/easier, extremely popular and therefore well known/understood/supported, nothing needs to be changed, and the 304 responds EXCELLENTLY to the increase in stroke. Why do you think HSV et al do them?

remember though, the LS1 is a WAY better engine than a 355 stroker, heaps more potential. If you're looking for a big drop in times or a jump in power, the LS1 may actually end up cheaper

I am doing the same conversion, i rang crs and they said that the 304 bell hosing pattern is the same at the 5.7l. so you can use a vr v8 trany with them...
