The government wants 5% ethanol mix in petrol across all grades without the need to tell the consumer that their is ethanol in their fuel.I am against this and I want to know what other members of this forum think.
I find it fairly hippocritical of John Howard....i remember a few years ago, they cracked down on petrol mixed with ethanol....
Howard a hypocrite?! Hes a good, decent, honest, hard working man who obviously cares a lot about this country and its citizens.
My car hates it.....but it is a good idea for motors that will run on it OK......(but not mine...).... :drink:
my car doesnt mind it, i dont notice a difference wen using 98 grade with 5% yet wen i run just plain old premium 98 i do notice a difference... very odd... plus i really hope there gonna add the fact there u must change fule filter a few days after using... as it ethanole stirs up all the gunk... also just so u guys no australia already uses like 1 % in all fuels, america has like 10% in theres
When i was in mackay most servos offer 10% or 0% your pick, i tried the 10% stuff and noticed no difference in anything accept it was cheaper
find some concrete example of the damage it does to an engine satos. i doubt youll find anything much. there was alot of hype about this when it was made public (keeping in mind it has been in use a long time). sure there are cars that wont run it happily, my vl wont run properly on gas from a certain servo here. who knows why it just happens that way. wouldnt be too stressed. try a bit, if your car doesnt like it, switch back. if it runs ok, nad chances are it will, happy savings!
My personnal experience some years ago I used to fill up on petrol from a particular servo who was up to 10 cents cheaper than others around him. My car for that week ran absolutely **** loosing power stalling and fuel economy went through the roof. I went back to this servo and complained to no avail. Then I heard from friends of mine that they had filled up from this sevo and had similar problems. After this I filled up at the major servos and the car ran like new with no hint of the previous problem. A year down the track the dodgy servo closed down due to him using anything up to 20% ethanol in his fuel. Thats why he was 10 cents a ltr cheaper than anyone else. I say good riddance. Other studies i have read state ethanol is abrasive to your engine internals.
Myths and Facts My understanding, based on E10, is as follows: 1) Power is 3% down, due to the 30% lower calorific value of ethanol versus ULP. 2) Fuel consumption deteriorates 3%, for the same reason. 3) Current cost saving is about 3%, which is negated by (2) above. 4) E10 runs cleaner. Good in a new car. Maybe not good in an older car with a dirty fuel system. 5) Holden advises on their website which cars will run on E10 with no problems. Most post 1986 cars are OK, except for a couple of imported models. 6) Oil companies want to sell oil, not plant juice. They prefer not to sell ethanol. 7) Ethanol has a higher octane rating than ULP, which might give some benefit to higher performance cars. Might be an insignificant effect as well. A google search on ethanol and/or E10 will turn up losts of technical data if you want to get deeper into it. My tendency is to not use E10 until or unless it is actually cheaper. I have tried E10 on a couple of occasions without any drama whatsoever in an 8 year old VS. Haven't tried it in the VY S2 yet however.
well with the current prices i would do most things to cut the petrol bill but yeah be careful before and check up as to whether your car will like it cos my lancer since it is the carby model it wont like it
