VR ute 5l
My V8 ute is having a short or something. If I put the terminals on its got a lot of spark like a welder plus the battery heats up. The negative terminal wire is melted and there is smoke everywhere. the wires get hot from the terminals to the altinator. Altinator is bran new and battery. Can anybody help before I take it to an auto electrician. Should I just replace the battery wiring loom

Try isolating a few things first. Since the alt is new disconnect the harness and retry. The next thing to disconnect would be the starter motor cables. Both of these have been known to give issues before on the V6, therefore I suspect it could be similar on a V8.
