I understand my car has 3 modes for the auto trans 1. Drive 2. Sports (flick it across but don't touch it) 3. Tiptronic (flick it across and shift)
Can someone tell me a few things about the SPORTS mode
1. Exactly what does it do, I like the sports mode and get my stock VF SSV redline cracking out some decent sounds when I plant it.
2. Does the AFM work in SPORTS mode? if it does then I could leave it in SPORTS mode all the time

Thanks

Changes between A / B lookup tables for shift timing, pressure, and other torque management variables in the tranny tune, which in turn affects some parameters communicated to the ECU.

Yes AFM works in Sports mode, but not as smooth or economical as Normal. However you can tune AFM and tweak trans to get similar / better economy in Sports mode.
For me the trade off always running in Sports mode is wear and tear by revving up and down through gears like a try-hard euro 4-pot, versus loose convertor in Normal multiplying torque, effortlessly booming up mountains and away from traffic at say 2500rpm to 4000rpm.
I generally switch to Sports mode for a quick pose, and tight twisty hills. If you feel it is so much more suited to your driving style I recommend you speak to a tuner to get a full engine and transmission tune... with a better cold air intake installed will cost about $1500 all up.

No probs Fred! BTW you can program either position to be sporty, one absolutely crazy racing tune and the other for gridlock commuting.
Even stock tune in normal for the missus and exactly how you want in Sports (ie she'll never know)!

Funny, I like to use sports mode but hadn't noticed any difference in shift patterns when I just leave it there.
In auto, I find the 1-2 shift happens quite early. Does having it in sports mode change this?

Yes, definitely!

Hey Pirate, How do you tune the AFM?

A few specialist tuners can do this as part of the tune, PM me for details.

Thanks mate.

I also heard that sports mode stiffens the steering?
