Hi All,
I am pondering the thought of getting rid of the VY and heading in the direction of a Calais V but 1 thing I can't seem to find a great deal of info is economy on the 6L.

The figures I have come across so far are based on a combination of driving suburbs and freeway, we don't exactly have that here in Adelaide well I certainly don't see any of it so doesn't help a huge amount.

It would be fair to say 99% of my driving is suburbs and stop / start usual sort of rubbish we all have to contend with when we work near the city.

So if anyone out there can give me a bit of an idea what your getting in the 'stop / start' conditions that would be great.

Thanks

Cheers
Darren

VE SS (4-speed auto)
I drive ~50Km stop and go, and ~50 highway, everyday

I get about 18-20L per 100KM (with 95 octane fuel)

and I drive with speeds ranging from 120km to 200km (Don't ask xD )

so if you drive in a good speed, you'll get 17-18L most of the time

(((All based on a 4l65E (4-speed) Transmission )))

with using a 6-speed manual, you will get slightly lower rates

:)

VY SS UTE
I've got the VE SS Ute..
160km highway travel a day to work.. 80km door to door from Geelong to Melbourne.
When being a good boy.. eg: not changing gears below 2500rpm.. not hooning too much and 6th gear at 100kph, I generally average about 9-10L per 100km.
At 100kph..the revs sit on about 1600rpm. Just ticking over nicely.
But when on days off and just pottering about town..usual stop start driving.. I generally get about 16-20L per 100km. Then the wife gets in the car and I can kiss all that good work goodbye!!
I am just using normal everyday ULP.. no premium... etc.
I tried the whole PULP thing.. and whilst it was noticeable on response.. there was no real difference in economy. Thus.. I cannot justify spending the extra $$$ on PULP. I can use that $$$ for other toys!!
Hope this helps!

Best advice I can give you is to get a CAI and tune done as soon as possible and only ever use 98RON fuel.

I have a tuned LS2 (so not exactly the same donk) with CAI and cat back zorst, and around town (i.e. stop start) the worst I've seen is 16 - 18 l/100km. Thats driving it pretty hard too. Can keep it down around 14 - 16 l/100km when not driving hard.

Out of interest, around 10 on the highway....

Bottom line though - nobody who wants maximum fuel efficiency should buy a V8.

And personally, I reckon youll get better fuel efficiency out of a new V8 that you currently are from your older S/C V6.

Cheers for that guys, CSP exactly as I thought re the S/C V6 vs V8, I'm not really concerned about how much fuel goes in, I blame the whole stop / start rubbish anyway not how I drive :p

I'm sitting down as we speak doing some sums to workout how to get the car I want plus a few extra's straight after buying, I think I might just keep an eye out and save for another month or 2 :)

WTF do you guys do to your cars (boy1236)? Having done just over 100,000 km in them I get around 13 - 14 litres around town. Towing around 2 ton and it spikes up to 17 (most I ever got was 18). I took the old silver SS-V from to QLD and got 10 - 10.1 on the hwy. Both cars were 6 sp autos. No noticeable difference between my new one and the old one.

Mine works hard - don't worry about that.... Maybe I can drive without costing a fortune in fuel???

I normally get 16 - 17L/100 in the VY, I don't check how many km's I do when filling up so it's really irrelevant I believe.

It's dipping into the 15L/100 now as I'm finishing 20 minutes earlier from work.

Open road it's down near 7-8L/100 but it tends not to see a great deal of that.
