The thread link I posted is the holy grail of info relating to this. With in it is contained every possible link to this conversion for 2wd and CrossTrac.

Here is just one of the links contained.

Getting the gearbox to fit is the easy bit.

It’s the shift controller and required software that is the challenge.

Lex has done it and it’s awesome.

Shiftcontroller never seen one or had firsthand experience but reckon flexplate/convertor would make it pain in butt.
It’s the shift controller and required software that is the challenge.
The transmission controllers are self contained off the shelf modules from aftermarket companies, they plug straight into the transmission (they're usually specifically designed for each trans model) and can be controllable from a screen in the cabin - https://www.summitracing.com/search/part-type/automatic-transmission-controllers

Any software for them is usually either free or optional/not required to use or program. From the product demos I've watched they're pretty easy to use and are in plain English, so it's not a specialist or tuner type task to setup.

They're a fully developed product and there's really not a lot to do to use one. Why old mate in the other thread wanted to create his own, I think he just wanted a challenge, but these aren't a hack job kind of deal where you have to engineer and put everything together yourself, these are coming from companies like MSD and B&M. Lotsa Youtube vids about them.

Lex seems to have had a custom length converter made pretty easily and it's apparently pretty easy to get different sized flex plates from places like Summit/Jegs/VPW etc... If you can't find one there's probably no reason you couldn't fill in/tap holes somewhere else on the 304 flex plate or have the torque converter built to suit it.

Heard of some people many years ago fit Ls pcm to 304 really dislike it for number of hours & hassle involved.
not fan mix n matching parts different era cars
Don't think it would be any different than any other wire in ECU, just that you'd have to use a lot more custom made componentry for the timing from the dizzy gear if you wanted sequential injection. There's a company somewhere that offers a loom you can buy now, but creating your own loom and timing sensors is big job even for experienced DIYers. Not to mention, the slight differences in 4L60e gearbox features and and their associated looms probably doesn't help for the LS1 PCM, having said that electronic gearboxes are poorly supported in the aftermarket ECU world.

In the thread I have linked you’ll see the heart ache that GWC went through getting the shifter to work. VE was easier than a VF but the VF fits up much nicer.

The link I posted to the Perth mob that do a controller (the one with the small screen) claims to have over come the problems with the VF shifter, and can get the manual shift function to work fine.

For the main one sold by Summit racing /TruBlue the VE shifter works well. It’s just ugly. Tuning it seems easier.

I don’t recall if the manual shift works with the TruBlue controller.
