8" Sub's in parcel tray upgrade?

Just wondering if anyone has done this with great results?

I have an aftermarket sub / box in the boot, but want to take it out so I can use the whole boot. Just wondering if anyone have any recommendations for the right sub to use? I hear a normal 8" sub is not good, and need some type of boxless subwoofer?

I will be upgrading the amplifier so dont worry about the stock amp.

I used to have a free air 8" in my parcel shelf YEEEEEARS ago, it added good fill I thought. I mean a car already has lousy acoustics it's not like I was going to win any sound off nerd competitions, just wanted some nice bass.
